"Is it true?"Edith screamed at Thomas in the street "Edith come on let's go inside-" grabbing her arm not wanting to have everyone's eyes watching, she pulled her arm out of Tommy's grasp "no Tommy I want everyone to know ,everyone to hear" she dared pointing her finger in his face "it's true isn't it"she shoved him he stepped back she pushed and shoved at him Tommy keeping a poker face soon her anger turned to sadness why did he do it she broke down letting tears escape she cried onto him Tommy's mouth hung open he wrapped his hand around her carrying her holding her head softly like a child "I'm sorry Edith" he whispered before walking into Pollys house * * * * * *
Everyone feared the shelbys people new not to get on their bad side as they were know as powerful scary people but Edith Densly knew different intact she heard different her house stood right beside the shelbys she heard who they really were through the paper thin walls , the giggles of the young children and laughter and conversations from the eldest brothers But when the war started the house next to Ediths was silent in fact the whole of Birmingham felt silent there was no more sounds of the men their voices were replaced with the desperate prayers from the two lady's And so Edith prayed to that her father and her younger brother Andrew would come Back from war safe to but when her and her mother received the letter her father at been shot and not lasted and her brother was missing and was beloved to of been captured with no return she only thought maybe she didn't pray hard enough or maybe her life was never good from the start as when men who did survive the war after ended her mother fell sick and there was no cure to it so she had to watch her mother slowly go too After her family had left to go live in heaven she had to survive of the money left over but eventually it wasn't enough so she had applied for a job as a barmaid at the garrison Edith put on a cream blouse and a copper coloured skirt walking down the streets to the garrison flattening her skirt before walking in she opened the wide doors and strutted to the counter "Ahh you must be Edith,Harry" he dried his hands on a towel before offering his hand out to her she shook his hand before releasing her grip before finally speaking "I'm here for the job as a barmaid" he shook his head frowning "grace" he called a woman appeared her hair falling down on her shoulders a golden blonde colour her shoes clocking on the wooden floor "yes Harry" she stood beside him "this is the barmaid who got you job unfortunately" she huffed nodding "please I need the money this job is important" Edith begging at this point he held her gaze clearly thinking Everyone's voices lowered as he walked in up to the bar "you alright Harry" his words slightly muffled from the cigarette that sat perched in between his lips "yes Tommy just tell Grace what you want and she'll serve you" "I'll give you the job for a week o'kay as a trial if you do good you'll get the job and work with grace" her eyes glistened as she walked through the door of the bar putting a apron on starting immediately "eh Tommy look at this we've got another barmaid" he pointed at Edith who turned around grinning at Thomas as their eyes locked he placed his drink down "I only want my drinks served from her now Harry" he pointed at Edith with his cigarette Ediths eyes widened hearing those words release from his mouth "heard that grace know that for next time" Harry called to her Grace nodded "yes I heard" she spoke coldly a jealous look plastered on her face Edith hummed innocently eyes peering at Tommy not knowing how this man would change her forever
