Edith lightly pounded on the door of the betting den it was her first day of work and she wanted to make a good impression she wore a freshly ironed dress which was a pale red with frills and beautiful embroidery she had a low bun and her stubby cream heels wich she always wore
"Go away, where not open yet" the voice which she recognised was Esme shouted "oh no, it's me Edith, mr shelby hired me I asked to work with you...let me in it's a bit chilly out here"
The door cracked open and Esme's head popped out her features softened as she spotted Edith letting the girl in.

"Girls we have a new member to the team eh" Esme called out the other women who Edith had Met briefly before
"Just sit over with me , watch and learn" as both girls sat together Esme teaching Edith as they went along another knock was heard at the door.

"I'm sick of this us lady's sit in here like slaves while the men go out on a piss up" Esme sighed getting up
"I thought they where going on a business outing that's what Lizzie said" each lady giggled at Ediths words.

"If you believe that your a fool" polly sat smoking
"I'll get the door" Edith got up offering her help she opened the door and was met with a smiley blonde

"Hello the boys said they where of to work I'm Arthur's wife I'm here to help" the women pushed passed Edith into the room where all the other lady's where sat.

"Oh here she comes" Lizzie muttered " 'ello lady's I've made sandwiches and tea all homemade " she placed a woven basket on the nearest table

"That's nice you've brought us sandwiches thank you" Edith thanked the women but the other women giggled.

"I'm here to help"

"Really?but isn't that a sin would God be happy with you Linda?" Polly asked in a mocking shocked tone

"I'm not the one doing the gambling I'm just taking the bets , anyways I'll make you brews and empty ashtrays but I'm not doing anything else Arthur says what you do here is immoral and sometimes illegal"

"Depends what time time you come Linda"

"Well I'll offer you my spiritual help! I've also got a message "

Polly huffed "Linda we've already been to church"

Lizzie snorted "sorry to tell you but I haven't" Edith giggled slightly before looking back at Linda

"Not a message from God a message from a protester at the factory "

"Is that supposed to ring some sort of bell" Esme nodded in a agreement with Edith

"When the clock strikes women are going on strike marching at the bullring"

"Why?"

"Poor treatment, having to share lavatories, less pay and it could go on"

Edith liked the idea but wasn't sure if it was best to share her opinion

"Fuck it why not!" Polly stood up gathering her things
"Come on" Esme tried to drag Edith up but as Edith looked around she realised it was a bad idea she couldn't just ditch work
"You go have fun, it's my first day of work I can't leave I'll be fired"
