My heart sank when I witnessed Emmie fling Raven across the room. This is exactly the kind of attention I wanted her to avoid. I let out a sigh of relief when Raven raised her head and slapped the hands offering to help her up away. She never should have challenged her and she knows it. We don't know much about Emmie's power or what she's capable of, she could have killed her. Despite what Emmie just did, I can't say that I wasn't proud to see her look Killian dead in the eyes, bow, and smile at her achievement. I silently prayed that none of the superiors or General Sinclair were watching because a fight like that wouldn't go unnoticed.

"Control your daearies Kit!" Killian spat, gritting his teeth, anger written all over his face. Even though she didn't show it I could feel Emmie starting to worry. She probably thinks I'm mad at her. I took a page from her book and turned towards Killian folding my arms and replied.

"I will when you will." I smiled.

Killian was furious and as he took a few steps towards me I braced myself to possibly fight him but the dinner bell rang bringing everyone back to reality. Everyone started to filter out of the training room and down to the food hall. All of them whispering to each other and throwing weary looks at Emmie. She ignored them like she always did but I know it bothers her. The room went quiet as the last few people left the room.

"I'm sorry Kit, I couldn't control it. After everything that happened yesterday and today I was just so—." She said as she walked towards me.

"It's fine. You don't have to explain." I replied.

"You're not mad?" She stilled dropping her hands to her sides.

"No. It was nice to see someone bring Killian down a few pegs." I smiled. "But the assessment tomorrow--." I paused looking for the right words to say.

"I know. Try not to use my power. Don't draw attention. Pass the assessment. I got it." She reassured returning the smile. Her smile alone could warm even the coldest of hearts. I've always admired her beauty and confidence and the way she unintentionally commands the attention of any room she enters. A queen without a throne.

"You should join the others" I nodded towards the door. Emmie started making her way to the door before turning to say,

"Aren't you coming?"

"I'll be down later," I said and she turned to leave without saying another word. She didn't notice the tall dark figure lurking in the far corner. General Sinclair.
