My Honeycomb

"Can you open the door, love? I think they're here!" Remus called from the little kitchen, waving his spoon around as he spoke.

"On my way, my honeycomb!", came another voice, followed by footsteps padding down to the front door.

"How many times do I have to ask you to not call me that? Honestly, Padfoot!"

Remus got a cackle in return.

"What was it this time?" Lily's voice entered the kitchen. She clapped her hands together, "Wait, let me guess. Did he call you his sugar bear?"

"No that was yesterday." Remus couldn't help but laugh, thinking about all the horrible pet names Sirius came up with to annoy Remus, as he went back to stirring the sauce he was making. "This time it was 'his honeycomb'."

There was quite a loud crash sounding from the living room, followed by sound of giggles. Looking up, Remus and Lily were met with the sight of Sirius running after an excited Harry.

"I've got this all under control guys! Also, hello Remus! No time to talk though, I think my best friend is trying to steal my son." James stumbled as he ran after the other two.

Lily turned back to Remus, who just stared back, until they both erupted in their own fit of laughter.

"He really is something, isn't he?" Remus murmured with a smile on his face, mostly to himself, as he went back to pouring his sauce out onto the main meal.

Lily smiled, knowing he was talking about Sirius. "He's almost like having your own child too, I would think. But yes, Sirius really is something."

Remus' smile widened, but he didn't answer, allowing the two of them to fall into a comfortable silence, interrupted by Remus occasionally asking Lily to pass him something from the cupboards.

"You're doing it, aren't you?" Lily asked. Remus hadn't told her anything, but as she watched her best friend, she knew there was something different about the way he was glowing under the kitchen lights.

He whipped his head around. "What?"

Lily smirked. "I know you heard my question."

He narrowed his eyes and lifted his wooden spoon up, pointing it at her accusingly, but didn't say anything in response. Lily knew.

It was only a couple years after they had graduated, and they had developed a lovely and tight family that brought them all light into their lives. James and Lily had begun officially dating a couple months after school, and they easily became the most obnoxiously 'lovey dovey' couple. Although Sirius and Remus always pretended to gag at their especially mushy nature, they were beyond happy for their friends, and the double dates they went on were always the most fun. The couple had brought baby Harry Potter into the world soon after, and even though it was quite a surprise, the two couldn't have been happier. James proposed shortly after, revealing that he had been planning to pop the question even before they were aware of little Harry. The five of them have been a family since then.
