I really hope you like this story.

Important notices:
#1- I didn't watch CPD after Erin left, so maybe Hailey's request doesn't match.

#2- I'm not an Upstead fan, but I respect who you are.

#3- Kim's story is not covered much in this story, I'll use it in some moments, but know that in this story she doesn't die.

I advise you to read it listening - Back to you by Selena Gomez. My inspiration for this story.

appreciate

Jay texted Hailey that he would stop by for a shower. He hadn't talked to her since they spread out and he found Kim, it was very scary to almost lose her friend to her. She was still at risk, so he was just going to shower and go to the hospital. He was surprised by his partner's delay in getting back with Voight, but the day was so busy that he couldn't care or think about anything serious. In fact he didn't think anything, his concern was for Kim and he knew that Hailey's was the same. She responded quickly too. So, one more point for him not to worry.

Hailey Upton:
Can we meet at your apartment?

Jay Halstead:
Of course. I'll see you there.

He arrived at his apartment and let out a breath he didn't know he was holding. The whole day has been tense. He didn't want to be in Adam's shoes, he's been with his partnerships a few times and both were his girlfriends, the feeling is horrible and he doesn't know what he would do if it was Hailey and not Kim.

He shakes his head quickly putting that thought out of his head. His girlfriend is fine and safe with Voight. He can't go on "what if" because it's not real.

He headed straight for the shower, the hot water fogging up the entire bathroom, making it feel like a sauna. The mirror is covered with smoke mist that comes out of the shower. The hot water comes in contact with Jay's skin, freeing his body of all tension, easing his muscles, warming his body, taking away all the dirt and sweat of the day and taking away some of the tiredness.

The shower ended, it didn't last as long as he would have liked, but he needed to be in the hospital and wait for answers about Kim's condition and release Atwater so he could have a rest too. He takes a towel drying her body and wraps it around her waist while getting another one to dry her hair. He wipes the fogged mirror up and stares at himself for a while before combing his hair and heading out to change into casual clothes.

He opens the closet pulling out a pair of jeans and a moss green long-sleeved shirt. He goes to the drawer and pulls out a pair of navy blue boxers and dresses quickly. Before leaving his room he takes a coat, he would even wear the one of the day, but it's all dirty, river water, dirt and Kim's blood.

God, what a day...

When he arrives in the living room and walks to the kitchen he hears his apartment door open. He knows it's Hailey.

They've had the keys to each other since their partnership got better, when he got over his past and stopped blaming everyone for all the problems that had been going on with him. Hailey was amazing, when they gave each other an opportunity to be friends, as well as partner he found himself liking her and learning her ways and quirks. If he didn't compare or think about the past he could move on. There were times when it was impossible, as his ex partner was the only person he'd lived with for so long, but he was getting along with it. It had been four years now, he didn't think about her as much as he used to. In fact, he doesn't even remember the last time she was a problem in his relationship, he managed to move on. It was better not to think about what could have been and just live what you are being.
