I googled the epilogue, but it was too late as I already had half of it written. Epilogue shouldn't be that big, but this is my first time writing one.
Músic: 10,000 Hours by Dan + Shay, Justin Bieber. The music is beautiful and I think it fits perfectly to finish this story.
Your comments warm my heart and inspire me for more, I may take a while to post, but I'm not giving up. I loved this ending and I made it especially for you, I hope you like it as much as I do, thanks to whoever has read this far.
"A year from now, two years from now, 20 years from now" - Jay Halstead
After they left Lindsay's apartment, it was just for her to drop him off at the hotel, but when he asked her upstairs she couldn't find excuses not to.
"I want to show you something." He says as she sits down on the couch. "When I got it I thought 'why am I taking it?' I didn't have a thought to do, but I thought it might serve some purpose." He walks over to her backpack.
When he takes what he took, if Erin had been holding it, she would surely break. Her eyes fill as he approaches.
"Did you keep it?" She looks at him.
"I've never been able to drink since you've been gone…well actually I've been drinking these past few days, it gave me the courage to come. It was one of the few memories I had of you." He explains as she gets up.
"I didn't think it would have that much meaning." She says looking between whiskey and Jay.
"Gabby said I must be very special..."
"You are..." She said smiling.
"I like to think like that." He smiles and kisses her quickly. "I know it was a birthday present, but I didn't think it was fair to drink with other people, you never got a chance to taste it." They both laugh. "I saved it for a special time." He comments.
"I think it's perfect now." She nods and he nods.
He then pours each a shot and they sit on the couch as close as they can. Jay's right arm wraps around her, she lies on his chest. It's silent in the hotel room, this time it's a good silence, this time they're letting their hearts and minds understand what they've done.
When Erin started the day she was smiling, she had the whole mission finished, she packed her bags, went back to New York, was stuck at headquarters for a few hours and went home to shower, eat and sleep. She didn't imagine that her day would end like this, in the arms of the only man she'd ever loved. She was usually more rational, usually not giving herself to someone after four years, not kissing someone in a few hours of conversation.
Jay's morning was different, it wasn't happy and he didn't even wake up as he could barely close his eyes. His friend was hospitalized, his girlfriend asked him to marry him and then they broke up and he thought about his ex. He was the perfect definition of lost. He had no plans, had no idea how his day would end. He flew to New York in search of answers, he didn't know what to expect, but that was definitely not it. It wasn't being in a hotel room with your ex in your arms, drinking a good whiskey. He just got out of a relationship, it took him four years to get over one or think so, because in these last few days he realized that he would never be able to get over it, he normally wouldn't change or think about changing his life for one person.
