At work I was busy in a case file on recent robberies at high profile billionaire mansions or their holiday homes. The burglar seemed to be targeting personal wealth of billionaires, their securities, art collections, artefacts and other expensive items. As per the reports compiled by various local police departments, the burglar went by the name The Shadow Thief. Apparently he left a card at the premises. *Roll eyes* What an arrogant prick. There is not much information available on him which is why the case was then passed onto the detectives and I as lead detective was going to take charge.
Well this guy just seemed like the arrogant, smartass I would love to outsmart and put behind bars. He seems to be doing these for a thrill, you know with a name and card and all that. So it's time for trailblazing detective Nabila to put an end to his fantasies and lock him up. How I would love to get my hands on this arrogant prick who thinks he is better than everyone.
One night we got a report of trespassing in a mansion from the local police department. Apparently our guys were watching it and saw an intruder climb the wall. I had informed all departments to alert as soon as something like this happen. Without thinking much, I rushed to the premises.
I was dressed in a smart, crisp cream coloured blouse tucked into a long, grey skirt, a stylish brown belt matched with brown boots. As I had said earlier, appearance is very important in my eyes and I wanted to look at my sharpest when I catch the so called Shadow Thief. I could already imagine the accolades and praise, maybe even another promotion.
I landed at the premises and entered the house without waiting for the backup forces as I wanted to catch the Shadow Thief on my own and then present him to the male officers. I have done this many times in the past. It's not easy being a woman in the police force and you constantly get written off. So any opportunity to show my superiority over the male officers, I don't want to miss.
It was dark as the owners appeared to be away. I quickly did a scan of the rooms and got my gun out of my holster. Making sure the intruder was not in the ground floor, I quickly climbed up the stairs. I tried not making noise but my boots might have landed a little too hard on the steps in my excitement. I felt my heart beat as I felt the thrill I usually feel when solving cases. This floor was dark except for the massive hallway light which bounced across the walls. I entered the room next to the stairs. It appeared to be empty with some furniture and a large shelf. I could make out that the shelf was empty which meant The Shadow Thief had already been there. I felt a shiver up my spine as this meant the Thief could be close now. I checked the room thoroughly and then came out. I went into the room right next to it. This appeared to be like a TV/Entertainment room as I could make out a giant TV screen hanging on the wall. I had my gripped my gun tightly, ready to point at the slightest movement when felt a gun on my head. Oh crap!! I had failed to check all the corners properly. Mistakes like these can come back to bite you in the bum. What was in store for me? I bit my tongue.
"slowly raise your hands." I did as I was told.
"now hand me your gun." I flushed in nervousness. A police officer being disarmed is always humiliating. I was being disarmed by the Shadow Thief so easily. Damn it!!
"Now slowly turn around." Humiliated at how I was being made to follow this robber's orders but still wanting to live, I did as I was told.
To my shock and utter embarrassment, he was now holding my gun and no other gun. He was not even armed. I was shocked beyond words. He saw me looking at his gun and smirked. I looked at him and he still had the annoying victory smile plastered under his cape. He was dressed in white with a white mask and red line his forehead. He could see the dumbfounded look on my face and continued to smirk.
