Back at work, I was in deep thought, thinking about my life of past few weeks. I had met my biggest challenger so far – The Shadow Thief and had been badly defeated both times. He literally toyed with me. My detective instincts were still smarting from my bruised ego, not to mention the way he played with my body, making me moan and writhe in shame and arousal. I have to put this behind me. Yes I haven't been with a man and my body is desperate for the male touch and The Shadow Thief had a strong, masculine presence and he knew how to play with my body, the fiend. But I have to drown that out and focus on my life and the man who wants to marry me.

On the personal front, I had decided to marry Azhar, a smart, independent, good-looking and wonderful person. So I finally decided to let him know – by writing a him a long letter.

Yes I am old-fashioned liked that. I could have just picked up the phone or met him for dinner but I wanted to write him a letter. If he wants to marry me, he better get used to my old fashioned ways. So in that letter I explained my thoughts, feelings and why I came to the decision to marry him, explaining my values, feminist ideals and what I look for in a marriage – a relationship of equal parties.

Azhar was elated. He called me as soon as he received the letter. I could hear the excitement in his voice. We were going to decide the dates and venue for the function but before that, he told me he had to go overseas for some business deals for a few weeks and then we can start the planning.

This worked out perfectly for me as I had vowed to go on a diet and start working out in order to lose some weight. Of course it's not to compete with Azhar's ex girlfriends or impress Azhar. I don't seek the validation of men and don't make decisions based on their wants. I was doing this for myself, I told myself. I always had a soft mid-riff but now my middle was really thickening where it was bulging a little bit through my clothes.I wanted to look at my best on my wedding.

At work though, there were other challenges. The Shadow Thief had been quiet for some time now since our last encounter but there appears to have emerged a new cat-burglar, a figure dressed in black from the early reports. As is the case with these things, the exploits of The Shadow Thief had inspired some copycats. (Cover image above)

There have been a trail of robberies of jewellery shops, stealing necklaces and other expensive jewellery items. The suspect operated at night and left very few clues. But luckily in one of the shops, I was able to get a serial number for one of the necklaces that went missing. Then we did a massive search through our resources among resellers and black market operators to find someone who had bought the necklace with that serial number. That person had give us some leads as to who sold the necklace – it was a woman, and which area she came from.

After my embarrassing misadventures with The Shadow Thief, I was proud of the good detective work I had done to piece together this case. Now it was up to me to stake out the area and find any leads.

I was dressed in a light blue full sleeved blouse and khaki brown palazzo pants to go with my white and blue headscarf. These colours complimented me beautifully and I looked sophisticated and stunning as I like to.

I arrived at the location. There was a decrepit building on a dark, quiet street. It was a small street and even the lights weren't working. These were the areas abandoned by our city corporation and community and these are the places that in time became breeding grounds for criminals. I could see how this building could be the perfect place for a hideout. But one thing was clear, this did not seem like The Shadow Thief, and as per the diamond agents, it was a lady who approached them. So I could very well be against my first ever cat-burglar.
