I arrived at Shanaya's office. But what I didn't know then was, that this was a terrible decision. What started out as a bad day, from the hit job on Shanaya's newspaper targeting me, mocking my fashion sense and wardrobe and my body to the embarrassing chat with my boss to finally my embarrassing encounter with my husband where I split my pants and exposed my underwear to him, was only going to get worse.
In hindsight, I should not have chosen this day as it was already a series of misadventures for me. This day will go down as yet another day of embarrassing blunders and misadventures of Hijabi Detective Nabila.

I walked into the reception. It was a massive hallway, with high ceilings and glass all around, a typical modern office building. I introduced myself at the reception and said I wanted to meet Shanaya.
"Do you have an appointment? The receptionist asked.
"No, I don't have one" I replied.
"Well Miss Shanaya doesn't really meet anyone without an appointment."
I slipped out my card. "I'm a detective. You tell her it's an urgent matter." I played my police privileges.
"Then please wait here while we check with Ms. Shanaya".
The receptionist picked up the phone and called someone and after speaking for a minute, put the receiver back on its cradle. "Please follow me" she said. I followed her to the Lift. Finally we arrived at a floor.
I followed her through a maze of corridors and finally stopped in front of a door. A young lady, probably in her early 20s came out of a sliding doors. She approached me, shook my hand and asked me to follow her.
I followed her into the doors.
"Welcome! My name is Natalie and I'm Miss Shanaya's Executive Assistant. It is Company Security Policy for any new and unknown visitors to go through a security check before meeting Miss Shanaya."
"But I'm a cop." I flashed my card again. I never shy away from using my police privileges.
"Sorry, but are you on official duty?"
I hesitated a bit. This wasn't police work although I used my detective profile to get here.
"No" I answered.
"Then I am afraid you must comply with company policy." She insisted politely.
"Ok fine!" I agreed reluctantly.
"Please remove your shoes and belt."
I removed first my belt and holster and pistol connected to my belt and placed them on a counter top. Then I proceeded to remove my heels. I immediately lost a few inches and Natalie towered over me.
"Now come with me to this room." I followed Natalie into a smaller room. Without my extra height thank to my heels, i felt a tad less confident in front of this Natalie who was clearly younger than me.
