Nova
Autumn comes to remind us that some things must die to be whole again, he was my autumn.
October left me dried, ashen, and bitter, following November, I had been struck with the burden of panic, fear and regret. It's hard to believe how drastically my life changed in only two months.
I lived and learned, laughed and cried; the full package when it comes to the human experience. What other way to vent and express one's deepest emotions, if not by telling a story? A story of love, friendship, and heartbreak.
My tragedy begins with an apple and one god forsaken apple might I add, the temptation even Eve couldn't resist, although it's debatable. Judging by the way men lie, I'm starting to think Adam ate the apple and blamed Eve, but that's a debate for another time.
It was my sophomore year in high school, I attended a private school called jewels prep. Just another snobby school made for students with parents that had either too much money or too much power. I fit into neither of those categories. I'm more of an outlier; I was able to get in because my mom works there as a counselor.
Sometimes before school my friends and I would meet in the park and hangout, we were all sat around a tree. Fall had kissed the leaves of the tree, turning their green to brown and auburn. But one leaf, still had bits of green and it had a small egg on it. Around this time of year, It's usually a caterpillar egg, but I wasn't too sure. I take a brown leaf and cover it as a way of protecting its habitat.
Maria, Giovanni, and Gisele were debating over who would win in a rap battle if Drake, Lil Wayne, and Kendrick were put against each other.
"Kendrick would definitely beat drake." Maria says, catching a leaf in her hand.
"Nah, you're tweaking if you think Kendrick would beat drake," Giovanni argues.
"Of course, your light skin ass would say that." Gisele rolls her eyes.
We all laugh at him and his lips turn in a frown. Giovanni was our prized, boy best friend. He had dark tan skinned with curly hair due to the fact he was mixed with black and Mexican. He was the funniest and most childish one in the group, even though he was one grade above me and Maria.
Maria was a short Mexican girl with braces and pretty brown eyes, and she was the closest to me out of the friend group due to the fact she was a sophomore like me.
Gisele was beautiful, tall, dark-skinned with big brown eyes and plump lips. She had the prettiest smile. She was a junior like Giovanni. We've all been inseparable since middle school.
"Let's be real, it would be Lil Wayne, Kendrick, and last would be drake." I say and Mariah agrees with me.
I looked over to Giselle and Giovanni to get their input, but they were too busy play-fighting to pay attention. I don't know why they won't just date already. They've had this will that they won't have a relationship since the eighth grade. We all know the only reason he hangs out with a bunch of girls is to be close to her.
It breaks my heart to see two people who were clearly made for each other, not together.
"Just kiss already," I say, and they both look at me with embarrassment.
"Girl, hush." Gisele rolls her eyes.
"Girl, be for real." Maria and I say in unison and we start to laugh. She and I were always so in sync.
"Hey, what time is it?" I ask, feeling like I've lost track of time.
"7:15"
"I gotta go. I'll get detention if I'm late for a third time."
