"Yo, watch out!" Andre shouts.
I glance up just in time to see a girl before we crash into each other. My skateboard flies behind me, and hers trips me. I stumble forward, barely catching myself with my hands before landing directly on top of her.
Me, Antonio, and Andre had been at the skate park for about an hour, trying tricks. I was focused on nailing a move down the stair ramp when this happened.
"Oh shit, you good?" Antonio says, helping me up.
"Yeah, I'm fine. More worried about her," I say, reaching out a hand to the girl.
"I'm okay," she says quickly. "I'm really sorry. I wasn't paying attention."
"It's all good. Don't worry about it."
She exhales in relief.
"I'm Sofia," she says, brushing hair from her face.
Her hair's split—half black, half red. Her eyes are light brown, shaped like someone from East Asia—maybe Japanese, but I don't like assuming. I'm usually pretty good at guessing where someone's from, though.
"I'm Daisuke. Nice to meet you." I smile.
"Do you come here often?" she asks.
"Yeah. Me and my friends," I say, gesturing behind me.
"Cool. Hope to see you again. And next time, I'll try not to crash into you," she says, smiling.
"Looking forward to it," I reply.
I grab my board and turn to see Antonio and Andre grinning like clowns.
"What are you bobbleheads grinning at?" I ask.
"Yo, D, she was totally feeling you," Andre says. "Did you see the way she looked at you?"
"What? Nah, she was just being nice. We crashed."
"Nah, man. She looked like she wanted to eat you up," Antonio adds.
"I don't even know what you're talking about," I say, shaking my head.
"Dude, you got no game. All these girls try to get with you, and you're just... blind to it. You could've had every girl last year when you first transferred."
"Whatever. I told y'all—I already like someone."
"Yeah, and you still haven't told us who," Antonio says.
"That's 'cause you can't keep your mouth shut. You'd tell the whole school."
"What? When have I ever spilled a secret?"
"Hmm, maybe when you told half the school I made that girl cry, or when you told them about me losing my virginity—"
"Okay, okay! I get it," Antonio interrupts, looking guilty.
Andre and I laugh while Antonio rolls his eyes.
Antonio runs his mouth too much sometimes, but he means well. He was the first to welcome me when I moved schools and showed me the ropes. We argue here and there, but he's like a brother.
Andre's the peacemaker, the glue that keeps our trio together.
"Come on, let's get something to eat. I know y'all are hungry," Andre says.
We head to my car, tossing our skateboards into the trunk. Antonio rides shotgun while Andre takes the back.
"Where we eating?" I ask.
"Try this new spot," Andre says, handing me his phone with an address.
I plug it into the GPS and pull out.
