i sit on the couch in the living room, connor following behind me. he lays a hand on my thigh and tightly grabs it, almost enough to make it bruise. "i don't want you hanging out with that logan guy. he seems like bad news." i sigh and look him in the eyes.
"i can't just be friends with everyone except for him." his eyes grow dark and my heart sinks. all connor is going to do is take control of me and who i talk to all over again. that's why i had no friends last year.
"oh, but you can." he begins to smirk, "because you know what? you're mine. remember? that big ring there on your finger says so." my hands slowly shake as he scoots closer to me and leans towards my ear, "the day you agreed to date me, was the day you became my property." i look straight forward at the black screened tv.
"sweetie, i think it's so nice that you're finally putting yourself out there." mom exclaims, her southern accent strong as ever.
"i know, mom. i just hope he likes what i'm wearing. he's older, ya know. which means he knows what he wants." mom walks to me and straightens up my red dress.
"he's gonna love it." i smile to myself and take one last glance in the mirror, "now! scootch along, don't want to be late for your first date!" mom pushes me out of the front door, connor sits in his dads jeep.
he jumps out and opens the door for me, "you look amazing, beverly." i smile, tucking a piece of hair behind my ear. he closes the door behind me and backs out of the driveway.
"remember how happy we were back then?" i ask him. he sighs and leans his head back, putting an arm around my shoulder.
"of course i do. but just imagine how much more happy we'll be once we're married." i nod my head. he stands up and grabs my hand, "you know what, i'll make up for earlier." connor drags me to the kitchen and sets me up on the counter, "i'll make you a gourmet dinner." i giggle to myself and watch him as he cooks.
"so, how are you liking high school?" connor asks, looking me dead in the eyes.
"i think it's great. some people get on my nerves but what do you except?" he slightly laughs, but it sounds forced. "i'm sure you're just ready to get it done with, right?" he nods his head, taking a sip of his water.
"if i had the option to drop out, trust me, i would." i give him a half smile, trying to find something else to talk about. "oh! your younger sisters on my cheer team, i think."
"yeah. her names carly." i nod my head and start to fidget my hands under the table. "i, um, really like your dress." he plainly says.
"really?" i sound too excited, "my mom picked it out." connor slowly nods his head before taking a huge gulp of his water, he must be pretty thirsty.
"vwala!" he puts a plate of heated up chicken nuggets in my hands. i look at him with my eyebrows furrowed, "what? it's all i can cook." he exclaims. i sigh and start slowly eating the nuggets, "bev," i look up at him, "we need to start planning the wedding." i nod my head and continue eating. "i was thinking of doing it at my parents house." i nearly choke at his suggestion.
"why would we do it there?" he sighs and leans back on the counter.
"i don't know. we wouldn't have to pay so much." connor shrugs and takes a nugget off of my plate.
what does he care about money? i've always wanted my wedding to be forest themed with plenty of leaves and wood decorations. but obviously connor has different ideas.
"i guess. i was thinking of doing something in a forest kind of scenery." he shakes his head side to side and looks at me.
"let me rephrase what i said before. we're having the wedding at my parents." my heart immediately drops.
"what's your dream wedding?" connor asks me, propping himself up on his elbows.
i shrug and continue looking at the stars, "i haven't really put much thought into it, i guess." he lays back down on the boat.
"i want something on the beach. it's basic but it really is what i want." i look over at him and slightly smile, he smiles back and looks up.
"so when do you go to school?" i completely sit up and look down at him.
"sometime in late july. i want to get settled in before classes start."
my heart aches at the thought him just leaving me here by myself to survive the next 2 years of high school. i hoped and prayed every night that he would pick a local college but he did not. he got accepted into harvard and so he was off.
"i'm gonna miss you." my voice cracks due to the tears i'm holding back. he sits up and wraps an around my shoulder, i lay my head on his shoulder and look out at the water.
"i promise i'll call you everyday and i'll visit at least once a month." a tear slides down my cheek and i look him in the eyes. connor smiles and softly kisses me, "i love you." he smiles on my lips before letting my go.
"i love you, too."
"i love you." i weakly say. connor walks over to me and takes the plate from my hand then places his on my hips.
"i love you too, babe." i smile and bury my head into his neck.
