hey everyone! figured you guys deserve a heads up on my progress on this fic, since you've been so patient. i'm afraid it's bad news.

i wanted to have the next chapter done by now, obviously. and i could have done that, possibly. but then i went to open my writing program one day (after not writing for some time due to being out of a job and any number of personal issues) to find that they'd switched to a monthly payment format and the old version of the app was now inaccessible. i had to pay $49 for an annual subscription (which is a big deal when you have a total of $82) and download a new app. this transfer saved most of my files, as promised. ...MOST. which story did it eat about 40-75k words worth of? this one!! because of fucking course it did!!

(what little it didn't eat, it also deformatted, by the way. the chapters are just giant fucking blocks of text that i can barely make heads or tails of thus far.)

i do wish that i could just write this whole thing in google docs or my notes app or something free and easily accessible like that (google docs is kind of annoying on the iPad for a number of reasons too), but i have this weird need to have my chapters divided up into subcategories super neatly. and at this point transferring my whole process to another app would be a major pain. when i finish all of my projects in progress, though, or get them whittled down to something more manageable, i might make a switch, so recommendations for alternative apps/programs are appreciated. it's hard to trust or want to continue using a company that ate about two year's worth of my hard work just because they decided the money i had already paid them (like $20 when i bought the app in the first place) wasn't enough any more. it's not like they're offering any extra services for what they held me at gunpoint and made me pay more for either, lmao. same program, ten times the money. capitalism is great! i love it. i suppose we could argue that it's my fault for not having backed it all up elsewhere, but still.

i do still have every intention of finishing this story, but i'd be lying if i said this hasn't put a major wrench in my plans. even my story skeleton, which i've been referring back to every step of the way, was eaten. i will have to reassemble EVERYTHING from the bits of notes i had taken in other places and rewrite entire chapters' worth of prose. it's so frustrating that i could cry, because i was really proud of some of the prose it ate, and it's hard to recall exactly how i wrote everything the first time around.

(for those curious, it's ulysses. do not buy ulysses for the love of god. also they apparently hate narumitsu in general bc they also ate all of the work i'd done on another story for them that i hadn't formally started yet.)
