"Has anyone talked to her?" Toni looked around the table. All the heads shook simultaneously.

"She won't answer my calls." Fangs stated bluntly. He popped a chewing gum into his mouth as he leaned back in his seat.

Toni sighed. "I'm worried."

Sweet Pea grabbed the packet of gums from Fangs, he threw a piece in the air and caught it in his mouth. "The girl just got dumped."

Toni glared at the jet haired serpent. "Can you not?"

"It's the truth."

"You're a dick."

"Well what would you like to call it?" Sweet Pea raised his arms in the air before placing them behind his head. "It wasn't a breakup, it certainly wasn't a mutual decision." He smirked to himself. "I mean the dude did it at her birthday party in front of everyone right before making out with that blonde Vixen."

The whole crowd was quite with all eyes on Sweet Pea. "The girl got dumped."

After a brief moment of silence, Toni hopped to her feet. She began to walk away slowly.

"Come on, where are you going?" Fangs yelled after her. "He was just kidding."

Toni turned around to face the gang once again and sighed. "I'm going to figure out a way to cheer her up."

She twirled gracefully on her heel. "And he's not kidding!" Sweet Pea rolled his eyes at the comment but followed the serpent girl. Fangs close by his side.

The three of them just about reached their bikes when a truck pulled up - FP's truck. The older serpent rolled down his window and looked between the group.

"What's going on? Where's everyone going?"

"We're going to see Y/N."

FP sighed, he knew exactly what happened. He also knew why your friends wanted to help, and why it was a bad idea. See no-one knew you better than FP. He was a family friend, next door neighbour, in your life as far as your memory could reach.

The man that everyone knew as the 'worst' in town, well that man saved your life.

Your dad left when you were sixteen. You fell in with a bad crowd, much worse than the serpents. You began flunking in school and experimenting with various substances. Not a good place to be at sixteen.

FP found you one night, stumbling in the dark along the side of the road. You were clearly intoxicated.

From then on, he never left your side. He helped you get back on your feet, and now a few years later you owed your life to the man.

"Stay here." He demanded.

"What?" Toni questioned. She stepped closer to the car but FP began closing his window. "I got this Toni."

"Knock, knock." The older serpent vocalised as he tapped his knuckles on the front door, slowly walking inside.

"Leave me alone FP."

"Well, at least I know you're breathing." He stated jokingly as he strutted inside the living room. You rolled your eyes at the comment wrapping a blanket tighter around yourself.

The older serpent sat on the edge of the couch. He turned to look at you and smiled. "How are you doing kiddo?"

A sigh escaped your lips. "I'm fine."

"That is the biggest amount of bull." FP muttered under his breath.

There was a brief moment of silence.

"Look FP, I don't need anything. I just need to wallow."

"Then I'll wallow with you."

He kicked off his shoes and made himself comfortable on the couch. He reached for the remote and began flicking through the channels.

"Anything specific you're in the mood for?" He glanced in your direction but you ignored the question. You pulled up your knees to your chest and wrapped your arms around them tightly, the blanket curled up around you.

He placed the remote down and focused his attention on the cartoons he chose. The colourful images fuzzed across the screen.

"You're really going to pretend you're watching that crap?"

"Are you really not going to talk?"

"What's there to talk about?" There was a tremble in your voice. "I got dumped."

"That's exactly what you should want to talk about."

"You don't need to do this."

"Do what?"

"Protect me."

"Yes, I do."

The three words hit a little closer to home than you intended them too.

"I'm not sixteen anymore." You whispered softly.

"You're nineteen, but heartbreak doesn't choose an age."

A pair of tears now raced down your cheeks. They were raw, salty, as they hit your lips. "It sure doesn't."

FP glanced in your direction. He hated to see you in pain. It only reminded him of that night he saw you stumbling in the dark, helpless and alone.

"The guy is a dick."

You smirked at his comment. "Sure is."

"And you know that blonde one isn't even hot." FP joked. You gasped before throwing a pillow at him, he caught it right before it hit his face.

"That is so inappropriate." You managed to exclaim as FP threw the pillow back at you.

"Inappropriate but true."

The two of you locked eyes for a second. A weird sensation, moment, shared just for that second.

"I could beat him up." FP tried to break the tension.

"So could I."
