We walk through the city as per our plan. Armin and Jean are body doubles for Historia and Eren. They walk discreetly behind us.
“Try not to walk clustered together. We’ll stand out. Eren and Historia, just act normal.” Levi says
“Why’s the royal flag hanging everywhere?” Conny asks
“Today must be the anniversary of the King’s coronation. Once a year they hand out extra rations to celebrate it.” Sasha says
“Sounds like the kind of event for you, Sasha.” I say, with a smile
Sasha looks at me and then chuckles a bit.
Suddenly, Levi stops and then quickly turns to us, “BEHIND US!!!! LOOK OUT!!!”
We get out of the way as a horse drawn cart grabs Armin and Jean.
“Armi-! Uh...I mean...Krista and Eren! Those bastards are running off with them.” Sasha yells
We follow the cart to a warehouse. We sneak into it, waiting for the kidnappers to show again. Armin was being touched, good thing they didn’t see through the disguise though.
“You’re sure about this? These are the two we’re looking for?” Dimo Reeves says
“Yeah, they fit the descriptions we were given to a T.” Another guys says
Mikasa comes out and knocks one of the 4 men out.
Fay comes out and knocks another guy out
Mikasa quickly moves and kicks the third guy, then pins down Dimo
“Conny, are these four really all of them?” Mikasa yells
“Yeah, that’s all.” Conny says
Dimo pulls out a gun but Sasha quickly shoots at it with an arrow.
“Move again and you won’t like where the next shot hits.” Sasha says
I gulp, “Damn, you’re a good shot.”
Sasha stays focused on aiming.
“Alright, first we get these guys secured. Then we’ll meet up with the captain.” Mikasa says
“What do you mean?” Armin asks
“Those are his orders. He left a message too.” Mikasa says, “It’s not just titans...we’re fighting humans too!”
I go wide eyed
As per his request, we go to the rooftops. Levi is nowhere in sight, but suddenly.
“I hear shooting! From there!” Sasha says, pointing, “I heard close to a dozen shots!”
I pat Sasha’s shoulder, “Nice work.”
Her instincts are always on point.
Mikasa quickly goes in that direction.
“Mikasa!” I yell as I quickly follow her
Everyone else follows suite
We see Eren and Historia unconscious in a cart.
“Look! It’s them!” I say
We see Levi quickly trailing it
Another guy in ODM gear comes out. Only….this isn’t just any old ODM gear...it...has guns…?
The gunman shoots at Levi, but Levi dodges and takes the gunman out with his hook.
“Follow the Wagon!” Levi yells to us
“Right!” Mikasa says
“Listen up, these soldiers were trained to fight other people. They’ve already taken out three of ours. If you hesitate for so much as a second, you’ll be dead. The moment you see an opening, go for the kill.” Levi says
“Yes Sir!” Mikasa and I say
I can see a terrified look in Fay’s eyes. Our friends won’t be able to kill people as easily as Mikasa and me. We’ve already gotten human blood on our hands. We know the weight it bears on us. And we’d do it again if we have to.
Levi takes out a gunman on the cart
“Armin! Secure the wagon with Jean! We’ll keep you two covered!” Levi says
Jean and Armin land on the wagon.
The woman driving it turns around and aims to shoot.
Mikasa quickly swoops down and knocks down the woman.
Jean puts his blade to the woman, “D-Don’t move!”
No...he didn’t go for the kill. He had a perfect opportunity. Damn it, Jean!
The woman just slowly gets up
“S-Stop!” Jean says
She knocks the blade out of his hands. She points the gun at his head and…..
“JEAN!!!!!” I yell
BOOM!!! The shot is fired.
I go wide eyed!
The woman falls over. She was shot from behind by Armin.
I quickly go in and grab Jean off the wagon. Sasha does the same for Armin. Just as some more gunmen arrive.
They drive the wagon through the gate of the city
Levi has to keep Mikasa back. Her feelings for Eren...they’re very deep.
We lost them...damnit
“EREEEEN!!!!!!!!!” Mikasa yells
We went back to the Warehouse to rest.
Armin vomits at the River. He’s crying uncontrollably. He just took another person’s life. I was the same way. Doesn’t matter who you kill. Whether they be friend, foe, or a piece of shit who kills people. Killing someone always hurts like that.
Inside, we eat our field rations.
Sasha and I hang out in the upper area of the warehouse with the wooden beams.
She looks at Armin in concern as they talk.
“It’s hard.” I say
She turns to me in confusion, “Huh?”
“Having to take someone’s life.” I say
“Are you...talking about that time in the cabin?” Sasha asks me
I nod
Sasha looks down, “I know it must be hard to talk about it. But...you never told me exactly what happened. Only that you, Mikasa and Eren killed some people. Who were they?”
“Some traffickers. They were planning on taking Mikasa and selling her. As you know, she’s a different breed. Highly valuable. Eren and I...found the cabin that they had her in. We….killed them all.” I say
“Well...at least it was justified, right? I-I mean they were terrible people. And you saved Mikasa.” Sasha says
“No, that doesn’t change it. Killing someone is still killing someone.” I say
Sasha scoots closer and puts her arm around me.
I look at her and blush.
“Well...on the bright side...at least we all got out safely.” Sasha says
‘
I nod, “Yeah.”
