Manvi's POV
The next day came by pretty fast. I was anxious would be an understatement. I did tell everything to Dhruvi who did comfort me all the time She will also be coming to my house for me. I was glad that she was my bestfriend.
Right now we were in my room going through some medical books and discussing some important cases. The time flew by and before we knew my door burst open by chachi, "You are still not dressed? What have yo been doing since?" her eyes roam around me room. Me and Dhruvi look down at my outfit which consists of a normal jeans and t-shirt. "What is wrong with what I am wearing?" I ask.
"Everything." and there she goes screaming. "Ok now we don't have time, come on." we scramble up and follow her downstairs. the sound of chatter dies down as we descend. Me and Dhruvi make eye contact. This is it. I huff going ahead as she stops at the end of the staircase standing there.
"This is my daughter, Manvi. Come here beta." Papa says, his eyes shining with pride as he introduces me. I smile a little at that. "Hi..." I greet the elder looking people while siting next to dad, definitely the guys parents. As I scan the room its just four people, the parents and two other females, probably my age or older.
"Hello beta I'm Nalini and this is my husband Jay." she points to her right as I smile a little at the couple. "Hi, I'm Divya and that's Priya." I smile more as usual. "They are our daughter-in-laws. Divya is Aakash's wife and Priya is Aman's wife." Nalini aunty says. "Sorry our boys couldn't come. They had some emergency in office, but I assure you they'll be here next time." she says seeing my father's face fall. Once again me and Dhruvi make eye contact, as she gestures me with her head. Time to gear up.
"It's okay aunty." I say trying to ease the tension off of them. The three ladies sigh in relief. Well what was the big issue? I frown thinking about it. Just then Ami and Avni come with tea, coffee and snacks for everyone. Since when did tehy start helping around the house? And since when did they start wearing Indian wear. I've always seen them in western wear.
"Oh it's ok. Anyways, these are my daughters Ami amd Avni. Both of them are so good at everything. they can even cook so many different dishes." Chachi praises her daughters, chachu also putting in a word or two. I giggle at the joke being the best one so far. I shakke my head at their childishness. Why don't they marry the guy I'll be so glad.
As all were listenign their rant, papa's face had fallen down. I knew he didn't want this. He wanted thid for me. So I butted them in between, "Uh have you guys met my friend?" I ask trying to steer away the topic of the girls. "Ohh she's here only." I turn towards the staircase where she sat on the lower stairs. I gesture her to get up and come here and help me out instaed of enjoying the drama. "Oh this is my best friend, Dhruvi." I introduce. "Hi.." She gives a small wave to all and puts her hands in her jeans pocket and sits besaide me. Sometime later all were engrossed in the conversation, me only talking when asked something.
"I think we should have dinner, we have a long way afterwards and dont't want to be on the road late." Nalini aunty says as the other members of her family agrees. "Ohh you were gonna stay for dinner? I didn't know." chachi says putting up an innocent front. "Juhi I told you yesterday that today there will eb guests so make enough food." Papa whispers, not wanting to be rude. Dhruvi stands up from beside me and goes to the kitchen. She knows what she has to do. "Ohhhhhh..." Nalini aunty says. All the Mehra's have eye contact asking each other what to do next. They are definately judging us.
"It's okay, we'll have dinner on our way." Divya says getting up. Dad panics "No no we'll manag somethign don't worry." and he gestures me to doo something. I nod taking matters into my hands or else everybody would go to bed hungry.
"Don't worry aunty, we'll manage." I assure them and rush to the kitchen. I know that Dhruvi is already out at teh restaurant for the food. I check all teh containers in the kitchen containing the dinner. That bitch has made food for like 4 people only. Ughh she's gone today. 20 minutes later Dhruvi came back with the parcel.
"Uncle, aunty, the table is ready. I'm sorry for the last minute things, we ha dto order in." I say hoping they are okay with it. "It's okay really." Priya says consoling me in a way. As all of them take a seat, me and Dhruvi start plating our own as we sit on the sofa in the living room since there was no space at teh dining table. As great as it sounds chanchi and her daughters got to eat teh homemade food themselves. Take that.
After everything was done, they were ready to leave. The twins kept on asking them when their sons would come which irritated both Priya and Divya. I could feel them. As I was distracted nalini aunty pulled me aside, "I just want to tell you something, I know my youngest son can be a bit difficult at times, arrogant and rude as well but I would love fot you to be my daughter-in-law. Beta I know you don't want to marry, but I really hope for you to be my sons wife." She says putting a hand on my cheek as tears well up in her eyes. She kisses my forehead and moves towards her family. "Goodbye." And I wave the same, not a smile on my face.
