Manvi's POV
Today is Tuesday. It has been one day since the Mehra's had come to our house. Thank God they haven't called back. I think it was due to chachi's behaviour. Whatever it was I'm just glad. Right now I'm in the kitchen making breakfast for dad. Since it's really early no one is up except me and papa. He might be reading his newspaper right now. After finishing up the breakfast I load it up in the tray and take it to his room. He is on call with someone so I quietly sit beside him and start my breakfast. Once he finishes up his call, his smile brightens and I gesture to go ahead.
"It was a call from the Mehra's. They have accepted the proposal." he squeals and hugs me tightly as some food particles spew out of my mouth in shock. I cannot believe tehy accepted it. Uh why did that guy accept it. I'm definitely didn't want to be the bad person and reject it due to dad. He is so happy.
"I'm so happy right now. You are gonna marry Adit. He's such a sweet guy. You will love him. But why not meet once before?" he says murmuring the last sentence, confused as to why. He doesn't want to meet because he is also doing this for his family and doesn't want to see my face. I can feel tears in my eyes but I laugh with my papa telling him they are happy tears. I hug him once again tightly feeling that he will disappear. I don't want to upset him. This is the most happy that I've seen him after mom left us. I cannot say no.
"So what do you say? Wanna get married?" He jokes and no being on the tip of my tongue I say Yes.
"Yes" and that's it. His smile widens as tears of joy start pouring. "I am so happy. My daughter is getting married in such a nice family and... and .." he huffs out of breath. "Dad breath" I give him teh air pump as I rub his back gently. "Come on we have so much to do." dad says going here and there in the room because he doesn't know what to do. I stand up with hands on my waist glaring at him asking what is he doing.
"Sorry got a little overexcited." he smiles putting his head down. I kneel down in front of him, "Dad we will have to do a simple wedding. Are they okay with it?" I ask wanting to confirm it, since being billionaires they would want an extravagant wedding that we can't give them. Papa's face falls knowing it's the truth. "I'll ask about this soon. You don't worry and even if they do want an extravagant one we'll do it since it's my only daughter's wedding. No compromises in it." he says keeping a protective hand on my head.
Suddenly the door burst open and Divya and her husband maybe entered the room. "Sorry we barged in like this, Juhi aunty let us in." I nod in return getting up from the bed telling them to take a seat. He introduces himself, "Hi uncle I'm Aakash, Divya's husband and Adit's big brother." dad shakes his hand and introduces me as well. "Uncle we are sorry but we listened to your talks and we just wanted to tell you not to worry about the wedding. We will be bearing all the expenses of the wedding." he says. I turn to dad wide eyed not at all expecting something like this. "But you can't do that, we are the bride's side. We cannot let you do this." he joins his hands praying them. I turn around as I cannot see him like this. "Uncle you are giving us your daughter, that is the bravest thing you are doing. So yes you do not have to worry about any expenses." Divya says kneeling in front of him. "But, but I can't...no.." dad fumbles with his words not knowing what to say as I turn around.
"No buts uncle. Otherwise we won't accept your daughter as the daughter-in-law of our house." Aakash bhaiya (brother) jokes. Dad finally accepts their wishes and sighs in relief. "Please wait I'll get you breakfast." I say not wanting them to go without anything. "Wait I'll help" Divya says and I just nod. We go to the kitchen as I heat up the breakfast and tea once again. She puts it in the plate as I strain the tea. Just as we were taking it to the room chachi comes.
"Making your in-laws work for you already. have some shame." she struts into the kitchen straining the tea for herself. I keep my head down not wanting to create a chaos in front of guests. "Oh no aunty it was me who wanted to help her." Divya says while chachi's face falls and she just walks away. Divya giggles a little making me laugh at her reaction.
"Is she always like this?" she asks as we go towards the room. "Always. Her mouth never gets tired." I say making us both laugh out loud. "We are gonna be best friends. I can't wait for us three to have girls day. It would be so fun." she might be talking about Priya as well. I am thankful that they have already started considering me family. I just can't think about what would happen to dad after I leave this house. I need to do something about that fast.
Before entering the room, I turned to Divya, "Di (sister), thank you so much for everything. You'll have been very easy going with everything. But I'll handle all the expenses for all the rituals before the wedding. My father has many dreams about my wedding and I want to do it for him." I say "Don't worry about it Manvi. You are our sister and being the youngest daughter-in-law of the Mehra family, just sit back and relax." she consoles but I just cannot do that. Why are they so sweet.
"No Please Divya let me do this, only the rituals before the wedding. You can take care of the wedding and the reception." I request once more. "Okay fine, you can but only the haldi and the mehendi. That's it." She says and I nod in agreement. "Good now lets go Aakash might be a little hungry, he hasn't had anything at home." She smiles kissing my cheek and goes inside and I follow her.
"Here...uh Aakash bhai?" I ask on what should I call him. "Yes Manvi you can call me anything you want. I am not that older than you." I laugh. "Ohhokay, then Aakash bhai is it." I smile keeping the plate on the bed. "Uhh papa I am getting really late, my shift will start soon so is it ok if I leave?" I ask papa. he hesitates, "It's ok, you go ahead we'll just discuss somethings and leave, since both of us have office." Aakash bhai said. "Oh okay thank you so much." I hugged papa and Divya and bid goodbye to Aakash bhai.
