Chapter 6 | The First Trial, Part Two

Makoto P.O.V.

I've just made a large accusation against a very dangerous person. Hopefully I can find the right evidence and this will turn out in my favor.

Byakuya: "Well? Go ahead. Certainly you must have some evidence other than the fact that I didn't attend that pointless meeting."

I was stuck for second. But then I heard...

Sayaka: "Makoto! What about the sleeve?"

Hmmm... It's a long shot, but I think I may be able to use this against him!

Byakuya: "What do you mean, sleeve...?"

Makoto: "Me and Sayaka went to investigate the incinerator room together, and discovered that that the incinerator was not only still on, but had a dark sleeve falling out of it."

Byakuya: "And how should we believe you, nobody else knew of this sleeve. For all we know, you could be making all of this up."

Makoto: "Actually, Kyoko saw us there as well, right Kyoko...?"

Kyoko sighs.

Kyoko: "Yes."

I hear her murmur something under her breath.

Kyoko: "Why did they feel the need to lie to me about this...?"

I turn back to Byakuya, but he just rolls his eyes.

Byakuya: "That's it...? You do realize that many others here have dark sleeves as well, right? And that's including you, Makoto..."

Aoi: "How about we make a list of who has dark sleeves and who doesn't? That way we know who to suspect!"

So, that's what we ended up doing. Here's what we discovered:

Dark/darker sleeves:
Junko
Chihiro
Mondo
Celestia
Toko
Byakuya
Kyoko
Makoto

Lighter/no sleeves:
Sayaka
Leon
Kiyotaka
Hifumi
Sakura
Aoi

Celeste: "Unfortunately, this makes the list of those that are suspicious longer than those who are not."

Makoto: "But since Sayaka is not on that list, that means she can't be the culprit!"

Sayaka smiled when she heard this, but Leon actually looked quite disappointed.

Junko: "That's good to know, but, uhm... what now...?"

Sayaka: "Well, based on what Makoto has said, our biggest suspects are Byakuya, ...and Kyoko!"

Sayaka immediately covers her mouth after saying that second part, realizing that people weren't supposed to know that yet.

Sayaka: "I'm sorry..."

She whispered this to me.

Kyoko: "And why do you believe I'm more suspicious than the others, Makoto...?"

I sigh.

Makoto: "It's just, you've been sneaking around a lot, and hiding evidence from us, not to mention that you have all the knowledge needed to effectively kill someone."

Celeste: "Kyoko dear, is this true...?"

Kyoko: "Partially."

Junko: "Uh, could you like, be more specific please?"

Kyoko: "Alright. Yes. I have been sneaking around a bit, but what I have found can guarantee that I am not the culprit of this case."

She then glances at me, almost sadly.
