"It's been a month since I've been here and I think I've spoken to most of our class by now," Sangyeon mumbled to Hayoon. "Except for Chisoo."

The two boys watched as the quiet, unfriendly girl sat by herself with her earbuds in, never looking up once to see what was going on around her.

"Don't expect to talk to her, Sangyeon," Hayoon shook his head, eyeing the girl that he used to be more than best friends with. "If you met her about two months ago, you would've had your chance."

Sangyeon gave his friend a look of curiosity. "Two months ago is oddly specific."

"I don't want to talk about it."

Sangyeon watched as Hayoon closed his eyes and rested his head in his palm. What happened two months ago and why did Hayoon know about it?

"If you keep staring, she'll think you're obsessed with her," Dajung joined them at the lunch table and laughed at the boy. "You do this everyday, Sangyeon. If you want to talk to her, go do it."

"Should I?" He mumbled, mainly to himself. "Do you know why she doesn't talk to anyone?"

Hayoon opened his eyes and waited for Dajung's response, who had eyes full of guilt that wasn't her guilt to carry. She seemed to swallow the lump in her throat and shook her head. "I'm not sure, Sangyeon."

The boy looked back at Chisoo, who was now returning his gaze. His heart skipped a nervous beat and he looked away, away from the resentment in her eyes. Was she looking at him that way? Or the two in front of him that seemed to know something about her stand-offish behavior?

But Chisoo was looking at Hayoon that way, the boy who was supposed to be there for her in every moment, especially the ones in which she was dying.

But he wasn't.

And now he had Dajung to disappoint, the same way he disappointed her.

Chisoo shook her head and got up, holding her side as she walked away. She could feel Sangyeon's eyes back on her as she walked out of the cafeteria.

"I don't know what you two did," Sangyeon mumbled as the girl he wondered about every day disappeared. "But it must have been bad."

Chisoo choked back tears as the friendly elderly woman of her favorite mom n' pop restaurant brought her what she ordered.

"How are you doing, dear?" Mrs. Lee asked, a gentle tone lacing her words.

"I'm as okay as I can be," Chisoo smiled weakly, a small nod following. "It's supposed to get better one day."

The woman nodded and patted her back. "It will."

She left Chisoo to eat, but the girl wasn't even hungry anymore. Everything made her lose her appetite, especially discussing how she was doing. She sucked it up - she needed to eat something.

"Do you mind if I sit with you?"

Chisoo stopped mid bite and looked up, finding the boy that seemed to always be watching her. She looked around to see if Hayoon or Dajung were around, but she didn't see them.

"Sure."

He smiled and sat down across from her. The distance between them was awkward, until he finally introduced himself, "I'm Sangyeon. I'm pretty new to the area but I've seen you around school."

"I know you have," she replied. "I've seen you watching me."

"Sorry," his cheeks went red in embarrassment. "I'm not trying to be creepy."

Chisoo couldn't help but grin at his shy hands that played with his rings. "I know. I'm Chisoo."

"I know." He thought to himself.

As silence took over the table once more, he wondered why he wanted to talk to her so bad. It wasn't because he had a crush on her, although she had that effortless beauty and intrigue to her, but it was because of her mystique. She had no desire to talk to him, and that's what drew him to her.

"What happened two months ago?" He blurted.

She froze and her eyes changed. They went from accepting his introduction to being on the verge of telling him to buzz off.

"I'm so sorry," Sangyeon stuttered, scared of making a bad impression on her - a careless one. "It's none of my business."

"It's not," she agreed and grabbed her wallet. She was ready to leave, regardless of whether or not Sangyeon was finished talking. "Here's a tip from me to you next time you introduce yourself to someone," she paused and put the money for her order on the table. "Don't cross the line."

She walked away from him and all Sangyeon could do was be mad at himself. He knew it wouldn't be a good idea to blurt out the question, but he couldn't stop himself.

"She hasn't been eating like she used to," Mrs. Lee came back around and sat where Chisoo was sitting. "Poor girl."

Sangyeon looked at his grandmother and pursed his lips. "'Poor girl'?"

"You don't know what happened?" She questioned, and the boy shook his head. "Her and her family were in a tragic car accident. She's the only one that made it out alive."
