"No, no you can't trust him---Dax I remember that---I remember that day, I know you do too," I say, clinging to his hands, "Please, please. You can't trust him. You have to hear me. I know you know I'm here."
"Brothers, always," Dax says, hugging Patch.
I slide behind Dax, afraid. I don't want him to know I'm here. I don't want him to do something worse to me. Patch frowns and says nothing.
"Good, now come on inside and apologize to your dad," their handler, who seems more like their mum, says, petting both boys' hair gently.
"You should apologize to ME for tasing me," Pasch says.
"Oh, I'd almost forgotten you need to apologize to ME for trying to crawl out the car window and kicking me in the face while doing it."
They continue talking as they walk inside. I start to follow. I'm afraid for Dax what if he finds out what if he---
