Lily’s POV

You came to slowly, you were lying in a strange, uncomfortable bed and your head was aching all over. You slowly opened your eyes and looked around. The setting you found shocked you. You weren’t at school but in a white hospital room with white curtains hung around you to act as portable walls. You looked to your left and started when you saw Louis dozing, sitting in the chair next to you. Suddenly a nurse walked in.

“How are you sweetie? How does your head feel? You had a nasty fall!”

“Um…” you started to sit up but a stabbing pain shot through the back of your head and you slumped back down in the bed. Clutching your head you found thick white bandages around your head. “What happened?” you asked, wincing from the pain in your head.

“Oh, honey, don’t sit up! Apparently you fell and knocked your head in a fountain.”

“But, how am I here?”

“This is just what I heard but your teacher jumped in after you, grabbed you out and tried to patch up the bleeding in the back of your head before calling an ambulance.”

“Oh, ok.” You said slowly, still slightly disorientated from the pain. The nurse left the room and you leant back down on the bed trying to get comfortable. Suddenly you moved your head on the wrong angle and shooting pains erupted in the back of your head. The pain was so intense you let out a low scream. Suddenly Louis awoke, startled, saw you writhing in pain on the bed and yelled for a nurse. She jogged in with a doctor. Whilst the nurse tried to restrain you from moving but helping you sit up gently as well, he quickly checked the bandages behind your head, quickly re aligned them and helped you lie back down. He pressed something on a drip next to you and suddenly you felt something rush into your arm.

“I’ve just given you some more pain killers, you just moved your bandages out of place and pressed on the bruise on your skull. Just try to restrain yourself from moving too greatly.” The doctor then exited the room with the nurse. You lay frozen in the bed. You cautiously moved your head to the side to look at Louis. His face was filled with worry and concern for you.

“Why are you here?” you asked in a croaky voice. Louis jumped up and closed the door to the hospital room.

“Because your parents are away and your friends family are unable to be here tonight.” He said slowly, still concerned for you, searching your face for any signs of pain. The painkillers were kicking in and you were beginning to feel sleepy.

“But why are YOU here?”

“Because I offered. I couldn’t leave you here alone or with some horrible teacher, just the thought…” he trailed off with a look of disgust on his face.

“What happened?”

“You fell from the fountain and smashed your head on the bottom, you were unconscious and almost drowned, but, well, I saved you.” He said nervously. “I just, please don’t ever do anything like that again, ok? When I saw you fall and I heard your head bang against the bottom, when I saw you floating with your head covered in blood, Lily I thought I had lost you. It almost gave me a heart attack! We’ve only just got together but, I feel like I couldn’t live without you! I don’t know what I’m supposed to be feeling though because I’m your teacher!” Louis was crying now. So much tension and stress had won out over him and he couldn’t handle all of the emotions he had been feeling. “God Lily, you don’t know how worried I’ve been!”

“Thank you.” You whispered, reaching out and touching his hand. He smiled gently and as you had next to no energy so he grabbed your hand himself and gently held it, rubbing it with his gentle fingers. You fell asleep just as you heard Louis saying something along the lines of “…can’t lose you…in love with you…”

***

A pain slashed through your stomach and your eyes flashed open. You quickly looked to Louis who was sleeping with his mouth slack.

“Louis…” you croaked and he opened his eyes studying you for a second before seeing the look on your face and rising alarmed.

“WHAT IS IT? WHATS WRONG?” he asked panicked.

“I…need…a…bucket…” you managed to get out before gagging. One of the known side effects of the pain killers you had been given was nausea and vomiting. Louis sprinted to the other side of your bed picked up a bucket and gave it to you, just in time before you threw up what little you had been fed through the drip. You were crying and sweating and Louis held your free hand and held your hair back as you gripped onto that bucket for dear life. When you were done, he took the bucket away from you and handed it to a nurse who had arrived. As she left he sat down next to you and gripped onto your hand. You still had tear marks on your face and you were all sweaty from the exertion. Louis gently reached up and gently wiped your hair back away from your face. He kept stroking your hair and began singing softly to calm you down. You slowly grabbed his hand and held it against your cheek. You looked into his eyes and he stared back at you with a twinkle in his eyes.

“Reminds you of last time, don’t you think?” he said teasingly, trying to make you laugh.

“At least this time I didn’t get it on you.” You giggled gently, remembering the time when you had twisted your ankle and vomited on him.

“And I was wearing my best shirt!” he teased. You laughed together.

“I’ll have to stop making a habit of throwing up around you.” You smiled with Louis and he paused, smiling at you sweetly.

“I’m glad you’re here Louis. You are amazing. I, I, I think I’m in love with you.” You said stuttering.

“You know, I would kiss you right now, but I don’t think it would be the nicest tasting kiss ever, no offence.” You laughed together, and he began stroking your cheek gently with his hand.

“Go back to sleep, you need rest. I’ll still be here when you wake up.” You took one more, long look at Louis before closing your eyes whilst he sang quietly to you.
