The drive to the university went by incredibly fast. River-Valley was at the very end of Massachusetts, meaning that it was a mere two hours at most and because I spent most of the time talking to everyone until the last half and hour, where I just stared out of the window and admired the views of Boston, while Carson and Taylor argued, my dad and Brad were talking about football and Brenda was napping.
"Dammit! No free parking"
Dad suddenly snaps, shaking me out of my dazed daydream, also quieting the car and waking up Brenda.
"Why are you shouting?"
She asks groggily, wiping her eyes.
"How am I supposed to park when it costs $10"
Dad asks and I silently chuckle at how tight my dad is.
"I'll pay for the damn thing, stop stressing Hallie out and just park up"
She tuts, reaching for her purse and shuffling through it.
**************
"F-22"
Brenda calls out, while the rest of us stare at her from looking at all the doors. She points to a door in front of her and we all scurry through the crowded hallway before staring at the door.
"Ready girl?"
Taylor asks and I nod, allowing Brenda to open the door to a room smelling of lemon air freshener, with posters of 80s female rockstars and some 80s music playing, and two girls sat on the bed.
We all scurry in and the two girls look at us, the one with a pink bucket hat on stands up and smiles at me once she sees me.
"You must be...Hallie?"
The girls asks and I nod.
"Yeah....Molly, right?"
She nods and leans in for a hug, which I gladly accept.
"It's so nice to meet you, I'm glad I'm with another fellow freshman"
She confides in me. This girl is beautiful, she's a lot taller than me, at least 6 foot, long, luscious black hair and she's incredibly slim.
The girl on the bed, is at least 5 foot, the same as me, with big brown eyes and curly hair, a complete contrast to Claire, but still incredibly beautiful.
"This is Molly, my girlfriend, she's just shy but once you get to know her, she's crazy"
The family laugh and Molly rolls her eyes, but I can tell from the twinkle in there that she's truly in love with Claire.
Everyone introduces themselves to one and other before my dad starts to complain about the parking and that everyone needs to head away.
"Bye sweetie"
Dad kisses my head before rushing out of the dorm.
"If you need anything, call us"
Brenda hugs me before leaving the room.
"See you, squirt, only a phone call away"
He ruffles my hair and hits my arm as he leaves, and I turn my attention to Taylor, who's wiping at her eyes.
"Get in here, you stupid bitch"
I put my arms out and she runs into them and I inhale her perfume.
"The apartments gonna be quiet without you"
I chuckle into her neck before she finally let's go, and she assures me that she'll call me during the week. Suddenly I'm met with Brad, who's just smiling at me.
"Wow! And there's me thinking you would be pouring your heart out at the fact that you're leaving me"
I ask him sarcastically and he blows a raspberry before embracing me in a kiss.
"I love you, I'll call you later"
He blows me a kiss before leaving, and shutting the door behind him.
"Come sit with us"
Molly calls me over and I sit down, giving the pair of them a weak smile.
"Would like a soda?"
Molly asks, jumping up from the bed and heading to a small fridge. I nods and thank her as she throws me a can of coke.
"So...what are your plans?"
Claire asks, leaning up against the wall and I raise my eyebrows in confusion.
"She means what are you majoring in and what do you want to do as a career"
Molly tells me and I giggle.
"Oh sorry, I'm taking psychology, and it's just a stepping stone so that I can become a marriage counsellor"
Both of their mouths drop.
"Damn, good career choice. I wanna become a marine biologist"
Claire tells me and I'm in awe of her career choice but don't deny that she is smart enough.
"What about you Molly?"
I ask, taking a sip of the soda. She shrugs, playing with long fake nails.
"I don't know. I have another year of college so I might just travel for a while, my dad doesn't care and then I'll get a job"
I nod and feel jealousy at the fact she is able to deal with the fact she has no idea what career to get into yet but am interrupted by Claire saying that she'll help me with unpacking and placing stuff around.
