The first week was good, nothing particular interesting happened as the university's class didn't actually start until the second week of semester for us freshman because we need to get a better feel for the campus and while others may have joined fraternities, sororities and gone to parties, I made sure to find a job, before those things were even thought about.
After four days of searching, I found myself a cute little book store cafe called the caffeine fix and I found myself being friendly with everyone there and actually enjoyed it.
It was now Saturday and I'd been working at the coffee place for two days and was getting used to the way everything was.
"Here you go sir, have a nice day"
The businessman nods his head and clutches his book before rushing out of the shop. I take a deep breath and check my watch.
"Hey Barry! Can I go on break now?"
I call out for my manager and he pops his head from behind the kitchen.
"Yeah go ahead, take a book with you"
He says in his strong Boston accent and I give him a thumbs up before removing my hat, grabbing a can of Fanta, two muffins and a copy of lord of the flies before taking a seat and relaxing into my book.
"Hallie?!"
I'm disturbed and look up from the book to see Molly and Claire, holding hands walking over with beaming smiles on their face.
"Hey guys, what the hell are you doing here?"
I ask, shutting the book and placing it on the table as the pair of them trudge over and take a seat with me. Since coming to college, I'd got to know the pair and considered them good friends of mine who I could confide in, as they could with me.
Claire told me about how her and Molly had known one and other their entire lives but only became a couple last year (no sex until Claire turned 18), how her mom and dad disowned her when she came out and she'd been living with Molly's parents ever since and was here on scholarship because of her grades.
"We love this place, we come here every Saturday before getting ready for the fraternity party"
"There's a party tonight?"
"Yeah, Omega Epsilon Eta are throwing their back to school party it's gonna be amazing, are you coming?"
Molly asks, unwrapping one of my muffins. I loved the thought of going to a fraternity party but all the crappy ones had been throwing it this week so I didn't bother, but now knowing the best one on campus is actually having it, this was when I was gonna go.
"Okay, I get off at 5 what time do you wanna go?"
I ask and they say 8:30, which I agree to before I tell them that I should finish my break, and that I'd see them later.
**********
I admire myself in the tight blue dress I now had the chance to wear and I couldn't wait to just let my hair down before classes started. Molly and Claire we're finishing up the last of their makeup and I admire their outfits.
Claire was wearing some low cut jeans, with some small amount of thong showing and a cute little zebra top. Molly was wearing a floral dress with her beautiful natural hair on show wearing minimal makeup and some hoop earrings.
"Don't we look cute?"
Molly sighs dramatically and we laugh at her antics.
"How are we getting to the party?"
I ask, grabbing my jacket and shoving it through my arms.
"Oh, our friend Malcom's taking us, he's part of the fraternity"
Claire assures me and I nod my head, not having a clue who this guy is, but trusting the fact that he was part of the fraternity.
"Oh, he's outside let's go"
Molly tells us, grabbing our wrists and pulling us out of the dorm room.
"Malcom! Open the damn door"
Claire loudly bangs on the door and the guy in front jumps, rolling down his window.
"What the hell are you doing? This is a expensive car"
He warns her before allowing the doors to be opened.
"More like a hunk of junk"
Molly splutters into laughter. Malcom just rolls his eyes and turns to face me.
"Hey, I'm Malcom, welcome to Boston"
I give him a light nod and introduce myself before Claire finally settles in and he drives the car.
