He Smirked
[Word count : 1044]

Saluting in the courtroom with a balled fist on my chest, I stand for my cause. Defending the titan gifted boy Eren Jaeger, a scout within our regiment that has impeccable talent that I wish would be fought more towards rather than against.

This was regarding the new raiding of the Titans, they were growing stronger and becoming more of a risk to wall Rose once again, learning to climb onto each other to get over the walls. People believed it was him who called them upon the humans, he is the only one that the public believes who can become one of them that they know of so far, and he is the only that would know human like techniques and Intelligence to teach them, once again as the public believes. I disagreed with the rumours, that's why I stood here today, fighting for the boy even if he wasn't in my team.

As a captain I have to be strong, I proved that in the trails to become who I am in the ranks, I wasn't about to give that up over a boy, and over a team of people opposing our opinions on his strengths and trust.

Across the row stood my enemy. A rivalry that has continued to hunt us down throughout the years of training and becoming one of the scouts, it's always been this way, since I knew him we've fought day and night for who will come out on top. First it was who would train for the longest, then it turned to more serious matters like the sergeants favourite, then it became who would become a captain.

People laughed at our rivalry and heavily entertained it, putting us through trials and races to see who would be the strongest captain to be elected in the season.

Considering we both have the 'Captain' title, you can tell it ended in a draw.

Levi Ackerman.

I hated Ackerman, but we were fighting for the same cause. For the trial about the boy today we have to act as if we're teammates, if we were to even converse with each other we would be at each other's necks in seconds because of tone and easily being angered; the only way to seem like allies would be to stay quiet and avoid each other.

Then I noticed his eyes flickering across the hall, landing on me for a slightly longer second than other places then falling back to stare at the judge. Back and fourth, from me, then back to whoever was speaking, but it always returned back to me. I couldn't say the opposite, the reason I was noticing this was because I was looking at him too; he was the only in the hall I actually had emotion towards, even if it was hate, so I couldn't help but let my eyes drift his way.

He stood calmly, unbothered by the opposing side yelling and screaming at him and our team, he seemed calm, almost too calm but what else would you expect from the stone cold bastard of a man. His cape hung around his neck, buttoned up to cover his shirt that was always tediously unbuttoned half way whenever others couldn't notice.

He glanced at me again, this time only me. His eyes following from my toes all the way to my hair. Scanning my uniform, my boots which always had heels so I would appear taller than him, the leather belts around my thighs and hips and waist, slightly too tight but it always loosened when in action. He looked at how my cape hood was perfectly tucked, and how my buttons on my shirt showed along up to the collar, buttoned up to the very last one. His eyes stayed there for a while, staring at the choker around my neck that actually held an emergency blade at the back of it and was easily unfolded for practical use.

Then he looked into my eyes.

He wasn't expecting for me to make eye contact with his deep grey, not at a moment like this. So his eyes instantly glanced away, defeated that I had realised he was looking at me, but I could tell he was planning something already in his mind as his eyebrows twitched in reaction to the judges yelling for order in the courtroom. He never reacts, so he has to be up to something.

He glanced back at me, to see if I was still looking in his direction which I obviously was to be noticing all his features. However my face showed a blank stare, no mercy or emotion towards his gaze, no look of pleasure that I has caught my enemy's attention.

His eyes looked me up and down again, his face returning a blank stare as normal, which angered my soul, I furrowed my eyebrows at him and clenched my jaw. He was checking me out, to tease me, to annoy me, all because I couldn't do anything to retaliate in the courtroom.

He raised his eyebrows cockily with his mouth unmoved, until he looked away.

A smirk, on his lips, he didn't realise he was showing it obviously by the way he didn't try to hide it at all..
I couldn't help but feel the same way too.

He was a good enemy to have. He motivated me to be better, to train harder - even if it was to spite him and laugh in his face when I won - and he always followed the same scheme too, fighting against me as motivation to be better at times.

That was the second time I had ever seen him smile. The first time being in a race, one on one, fighting as many Titans as we could on the way around to prove our strength and power against one another to become captain. No one could vote on who would be most worthy so it turned into a small tournament for a while.
He smiled when he overtook me in the race after a tough battle, he was proud, and the smile was cocky, but it was still there.

Maybe we were both clinging onto the label of 'enemy' to hide every other passionate emotion towards each other..
