Squinting through your spyglass, you focused on the horizon.
A large ship sailed a few hundred yards away. It's massive size and reinforced bow and hull made it clear that it was a ship destined for war. You could see the shadowy outline of three others sailing in the distance.
You aimed your spyglass at their sails, hoping to identify their emblem. To your displeasure, you didn't recognize it.
"And?" John questioned.
"I don't know it." You bit your lip in frustration. After all these years spent at sea, you'd thought you would know all of its seafaring tribes. Letting out an exasperated sigh, you folded you spyglass and placed it pack into your belt.
"Y'a don't think Grimmel would have changed his emblem do y'a? After all, the two of you had unfinished business..."
"Grimmel's goons are too warm blooded to head this far North. Besides, he's too busy conquering the Eastern world." The threat of meeting Grimmel was the last thought you wanted on your mind. Even if you knew he wouldn't leave the Southern seas, sending people to do his dirty work wasn't beneath him. "Steer clear of those ships. We aren't going to risk the safety of the crew for the sake of satisfying our curiosity."
"As you wish Captain."
Suddenly, some of your sailors began to shout in alarm. Turning on your heels, you barely managed to get a good look at the incoming pack of dragons. They bombarded your ship as they carelessly and chaotically flew over it. The violent shaking sent your men flying all across your deck.
The rocking and the shouting woke Spitefire up instantly . Jumping jumping forward, she wrapped herself around you. As she began to camouflage herself, the woven Changewing scales in your clothes made you disappeared as well.
As quickly as the pack of wild dragons came, the flew off. They disappeared into the clouds above you.
"Captain?"
"I'm right here John", you gently pushed your dragon off of you and reappearing in front of him. "As I was saying, we are to keep a safe distance from those ships. Judging by their size, I doubt that they are a welcoming comity."
"Aye capitaine. Those lousy flyers are missing something up in their noggin'. Oi, look at em' now! There flying straight towards the ships."
"What?" You lifted your spyglass back up. The small group of dragons were effortlessly gliding through the air around the ships. They swooped up and down, avoiding all the arrows and nets. Their attacks to the hull were perfectly timed with one another. Their teamwork was impeccable.
You had never seen so many different classes of dragons working so well together.
It was only after the Deadly Nadder attempted a suicidal manoeuvre that you saw it.
"Riders..."
"What?" John exclaimed. Squinting his eyes, he focused on the ships, hoping to get a better look. "I thought you were the only fool to ride one."
You hardly gave him a sideways glance before continuing to observe them, "It explains why the dragons aren't ripping each other to shreds."A flock of dragons flew out of the damaged hull, scattering across the midday sky. "Looks like they're all flying away...except for that one." A dragon with metallic like scales seemed to prevent the others from escaping.
"There seems to be a Razorwhip."
"A rare beast it is. Is it with the others?"
"No, it seems to be fighting against them, but..."your voice trailed off.
"But what lass?"
"It's hesitant. And it took a hit from a very avoidable attack."
"Hand me yer spyglass for a moment."
"Here. I saw all I needed to see." As you handed it over, you caught a flash of purple lighting coming from the ships.
"By the gods!"
" John, what is it?"
"That's a Nightfury!"
"Impossible." You felt your heart stop. Nightfurries we're warm blooded creatures. The last colonies had been completely wiped out by Grimmel and his favourite general, Drago Bludvist.
"There it is lass," he said while handing the spyglass back to you, " the offspring of lightning and death. I'd never imagined I'd live to see one."
"Helmsman!"
"Yes captain?"
"I don't care if it takes us an extra day to reach our destination. We are not to engage."
"Aye captain."
"Y/N, if it is who you think it is, his coming ti collect."
"Aye, I'd like to see him try." You turned and made your way down the stairs with Spitefire trailing behind you shivers went down your spine as you closed your canine door. You might have finally bitten off more then you can chew.

...

"What we're you doing up there?" Ryker ask Heather, suspecting her of foul play. He didn't trust her, not that he trusted anyone aboard the ship, but something about her felt off. Staring down at her, he hopes his intimidating size would get her to talk.
She stop tending to her injured dragon to look up at him. Ice cold challenging eyes stared back at him. She wasn't afraid.
"You have something to say Ryker?"

"Something didn't look right."

"Which part? You giving her a heads up I was there or you doing nothing. Maybe both"

"Why you little-" Ryker was at his last straw. She needed to be taught a lesson on how to respect her elders. He made a move for his sword, preparing to strike her down but a calm hand on his shoulder stopped him. Turning, he saw the berserker chief.

"Now now , let's not get crazy"

"You're talking to me about crazy?"

"Allow me to put it another way, if you touch one hair on my sister's head, I'll run you threw and wear your rib cage  as my battle armour."

Before Ryker could reply one of the hunters approached him.
"We're heading back to the island "
"On whose orders?"
"Viggo's...He's waiting"
This surprised him, Viggo rarely sent for his brother. Something must have been wrong. On the other hand, this proved to be quite favorable. His younger brother would surely figure out what the problem was with the girl.
"Well let him settle this" Ryker walked away leaving the siblings to talk.

The riders had done considerable damage to his fleet. They could still sail, but the cost in repairs would be expensive. Ryker knew they would need to find, hunt and sell a good number of dragons to make up for their losses.
Returning to his position behind the helm, he set his sights ahead as he chartered a course back to the island, but something in the distance caught his eye.
Lifting his spyglass, he spotted the faint silhouette of a ship. It was a chance to make up for what they lost.
"Oi, rider. I want you to steal whatever ya can from that ship."
"But why? "
"Stop asking questions and follow orders. The more valuable cargo we have the more likely Viggo will be pleased. "

...

After what her brother had told her, she knew it was best to play Ryker's game. After all , if it would make him less suspicious it would play in her favour.
Heather mounted her dragon and took off high above the clouds, setting her sights on the ship.
