Ryker stood in total disbelief. Not only had his lost the entirety of Virgo's precious cargo, but now most if not all of his crew had been knocked out by a new attacker.
An attacker who seemed to be fat more skilled the the riders he had faced in the morning. The main deck of his ship had been overrun by a purple mist. As it began to dissipate he cautiously sniffed the air.
"Orleander" He turned towards Dagur. "Our new friend not only knows their flowers but also has a good understanding on their possible uses. They created an instantaneous and highly effective knock out gas. They also made sure to mask their dragon's scent. Impressive.""How do you know our opponent is on dragon back?" Daggur questioned.
"Because there isn't any ship and those attacks came from above. So unless ya know of any other flying beasts..." A deranged smile spread across Daggur's face as the excitement of a approaching battle rose inside his chest.
Ryker hated when the berserker got like this. The excitement would often get the best of him, clouding his mind and making him a liability. Ryker let out an irritated sigh and silently cursed his brother for involving an irritating child.
Scanning the sky and observing the approaching vessel in the distance, he connected the dots; "So they came from ship"Ryker paused, "if they're here, that means your sister failed her mission.""Heather?" His deranged expression was replaced with a worried one."That's impossible, berserkers never fail. I swear if that rider hurt my sister, I'll rip 'em to shreds!"
Ryker looked around at the handful of men standing on top of the quarter deck who hadn't been hit. "I don't care what ya do to 'em, just get your men ready. They'll probably-" Before he could finish speaking, a massive force sent him and the hand full of men flying over the rails and into the water.
Dagur's eyes grew wide with anticipation as a changewing began to manifest in front of him.
Without any hesitation, he lunged for the dragon. Yet, before he could even lift up his axe, he felt the cool metallic touch of a dagger against his throat. He had completely forgot about the rider....
The vikings have always been easy to take down. They had a terrible habit of staying in large groups and they would use their brawn over their brain. A simple, well coordinated attack, would easily do the trick.
Leaning down next to your changewing's ear, you told her to body slam the handful of men that stood on top of the quarter deck. Your goal was to send them flying into the water. You wanted to limit wasting your team's energy on needless fighting. By Letting Spitefire take the larger ones out, it would easily allow you to finish the scrawny off.
She swiftly and silently dove down towards the ship. When the deck was close enough, you jumped off and rolled. Staying low to the ground, you watched her push all but one overboard.
You could hear the loud splashes as the fell in one by one.
The scrawny looking one was completely baffled when a dragon appeared before him. You took the opportunity to sneak up on him."If you drop the axe, we can do it this the easy way." You told him, placing your dagger against his throat.
"Oh a challenge!" He laughed. Turning on his heels, he swung his axe in your direction. His form was ever so slightly off, making his attack sloppy and easy to dodge. Twirling around him, you dropped kicked him to the floor.
Landing with a loud thud he looked up, "You're pretty strong" he told you, a smile spread across his face. Not wanting to risk your dragon's safety, you clicked your tongue and sent her back up into the sky. "And you're pretty crazy."
With a larger smile, he jumped back up and charged you with his axe in hand. Once again, he relied solely on his brute strength. Thought he did seem to be a skilled fighter, his uncontrollable excitement made him terribly uncoordinated. He just kept swinging and laughing. He was completely unhinged.
You countered and dodged his attacks until you saw an opportunity.Your opponent took one swing too far. Taking a leap, you jump up into the air and kneed him in the face. He flew backwards and hit the ground with a heavy thud.
Tired and out of breath, you nudged the viking with your foot. He laid there bloody and unmoving. You could tell that he was still breathing but his nose looked broken and you most likely gave him a good concussion. When you were sure that he was unconscious, you put your dagger away and bent down to get a closer look of him.
The tattoo across his face and the armour he wore reminded you of a tribe you had encountered a couple years back.
"I didn't know hunters worked with berserkers. Gods I have missed a lot." You told yourself. " I thought it would have been more of a challenge," you glanced around, "I guess I was wrong." You stood up to call your dragon. But before you could whistle for her, you felt an immense force slam into your back. It sent you flying forward.
You fell to the ground gasping for air.
Heavy footsteps approached you from behind. "You've got talent lass, I'll give you that, but I have experience." Looking up, you saw a monster of a man standing over you. He held two very menacing swords. You could see a faint bloodstream running down their hilts.
Glancing behind him, you saw the deep gashes in the wood floor. He must have used his swords to climb back up onto the quarter deck. "It was fun, but it's over now. Any last words lass?""Yeah, how hard does a cocky bastard like you fall?" Without hesitation, you knock him off his feet. Springing back up you whistled for your Changewing, all while keeping the Hunter in your line of sight.
You carefully and discreetly reached under your clock for your pouches. You only had two left.
"You're good lass" he said getting up "but you and that little ship of yours will replace the bounty I lost..""Well, if you and your crew could put up more of a fight, maybe you wouldn't have lost it in the first place." You snickered.
He lunged at you.
Similar to the berserker, he relied solely on his brawn. You knew that he had assumed that his sheer massive size would overpower you.Little did he know, you had been trained by some of the most skilled hunters in all of the archipelago. He was going to need more than just strength to win.
Out of the corner of you eye, you could see your dragon re-materialize in the sky. You saw her dive down towards you.
You only had a matter of seconds to create an escape route off of the ship.
Your opponent attempted an uppercut but you managed to counter it. Shuffling out, you used your shin to attack his back leg.His knee buckled, destabilizing him. You followed with a push kick to the body which sent him stumbling backwards.
SpitFire was now seconds away from you, your window of opportunity was closing. Taking a running start you slid past him and sprinted towards the edge of the deck. You leaped off the ledge and were now inches away from you dragon. As your fingers grazed her saddle, you felt a tight grip around your ankle pulling you back down.
Your body hit the deck hard. Cursing under your breath, you attempted the stand back up only to be greeted by the tip of a blade."This was fun, it really was, but I'm afraid I have to end our little game."He lifted his blade. "I'm a nice guy so I'll ask you once more, any last words?"
You looked up to the sky and smirked. "Nope." You quickly pulled out and smashed the remaining Oleander pouches on the deck and held your breath. The purple mist created a thick cover. When the Hunter lifted his hands to shield his face, you took the moment to slip out from underneath his blade. Before he could do anything else, your dragon body slammed him, sending him flying above you. Once he was on the ground SpitFire pounced on him, pinning him down.
"Spit, would you be a dear and clear the mist for us please." She fluttered her wings and the mist disappeared. You cleared your throat. "Now if you were as good as you said you were you would have let a lass beat you. "Lifting you eyes you could see your crew boarding your ship. "Now, for the damage caused to my ship, I'll be claiming yours and I'll be taking the remainder of your crew as well.""You can't do that!" He argued
"I'm afraid I can. Besides my chief would be more then happy to have new hunters."
"And who is your blasted chief?"
"I was trained by the Grimborn brothers, therefore my chief is the honourable Viggo Grimborn...Now if you'll excuse me, I have duties to entend to-" as you made you way to your crew you heard him call out. You turned yo face him.
He looked you up and down. "It can't be... F/N?"
