She was in her teenage years when she discovered she could pretty much do whatever she wanted.
Her mother a lady born into a wealthy family, her father a judge in the raising.
Shen Yue couldn't remember when was the last time her mother sat down to comfort her, to give her advice, to talk boys... nothing.
When she asked her for quality time she always said, "Darling, you are an independent young woman. Mommy needs her leisure time." Or the famous, "mommy has a headache, Here take the driver with you."
Her mother would rather do her nails than spend time with her only daughter. Her father was no better, he was always on business trips.
When her father was home they argued at all hours of the day.
"What do you mean you stopped your medication?!" Was one of those things that made Shen Yue uneasy.
She asked, what medications? but no one was allowed to say anything.
"Darling, you're my daughter, boys will ran after you. The only thing you have to do is snap your fingers." And Shen Yue believed it. She had to accept, her mother with all her excuses and complications always made her feel a slight confidence.
Time went on when she didn't need her comfort anymore, not that she ever got it.
The day after the Boston faculty party she got a call to go home.
It was her mother, she was found dead at her home.
The first she asked when she arrived was, "where's is mom?!" Her father tried to explain she was being prepared for the funeral. She wanted to confirm with her own two eyes it was true.
She saw her lifeless when the door was left ajar. She couldn't stomach the sight of her.
She went to her room and felt it was her duty to cry.
