Alex POV

Poli. Sci. passed quickly with me leaning against my desk as the teacher droned on and on about the lesson. I had fallen asleep by the end of the period and when the bell rang, I jumped.

I turned to where Alice was laughing beside me, “Oh, shut it, Alice. I’ll see you later.”
She gives me a smile and a wave as she walks out of the classroom, me following soon after, making my way to biology.

When I got to the classroom, I saw Bella sitting at her desk with her arms crossed, “Hey, what's wrong?”

“He’s not here,” she huffed, gesturing to where Edward’s seat was, “I can ask Alice or someone where he is?”

SHe shook her head, “Nah, it's fine, i'll talk to him tomorrow.”

Except she didn't. For the next few days, Edward was nowhere to be seen, and it was making Bella angry.

Finally, on a Friday morning as we were eating breakfast, she exclaims, “You know what? I'm done, if he’s not going to be there, then I don't care! I'm not gonna go about my day waiting to see if he is there just so I can talk to him!”

I chuckled as I walked to her by the sink and kissed her head, “That's the spirit, forget him, he doesn't matter anyways.”

She smiled as I took her bowl and washed it with mine.
A few seconds later, we hear the roar of Bella’s truck in the driveway.
We both hurriedly put our jackets on and rushed outside where it was of course raining.
As we go down the steps to where dad is getting out of the truck, Bella slips on a patch of ice and slides down to the ground.

Dad hurries over as I help her up, “You ok, Bells?” he asks as she wipes ice off of her butt.
“Ice doesn't help the uncoordinated,” I chuckle as she slowly makes it the rest of the way down the porch.

“That's why I got you new tires, well only on the truck, so you'll have to share.” I put my arm over Bella’s shoulder, “Thats fine, right Bells?”

She doesn't answer, still staring over at her truck, “You got me new tires. No one’s ever done that before,”
Dad looks at her confused, and she quickly looks back at him, “I mean… nothing.”

He nods, still confused as he makes his way to his cruiser, “Well, i'm going to be late for dinner. I'm heading down to Mason County. A security guard at Grisham County got killed by some kind of animal.”

I felt an odd sort of cold wash over me as he said that, like a sense of dread, “An animal?” I asked.

Dad sighed, opening his door, “You’re not in Phoenix anymore, kids. They’ve been hunting it for a week with no luck, thought I’d lend a hand.”

“Be careful,” Bella steps forward as dad gets in the cruiser, “Always am.”

As we watch him drive away, Bella and I share a grim look before making our way to her truck, wanting to be safe rather than sorry.

First period once again flies by as I say hello to my friends and Alice, and before I know it, its biology.

As I'm walking to the class, I can see where Bella and Eric are walking together and get behind them, “...and yeah, prom committee is a chick thing, but I gotta cover it for the paper anyway,” I roll my eyes at him, for some reason, he’s always annoyed me. Plus he has a crush on my little sister, so y’know, gotta be the big brother, “and they need a guy to help choose the music.”

They stop at the door to hang up their coats, “So I need your playlist.”

Before they can continue, Mike comes up to Bella, shaking his hat over her head, “Come on, Arizona. Give it up for the rain, girl.”

I walk up to them, hanging my coat up, “Mike,” I say, glaring at him. When he sees me, he quickly walks away as I turn to Bella.

“Terrific,” she states as she looks at her now wet shirt, I laugh as I look into the classroom and smirk as I see a certain someone.

“Hey, Bells, don't look now but looks like you have a lab partner today,”
I snort as she quickly turns around and sees Edward sitting at their table, “Good luck.” I sing as I walk to my table with Angela.

The rest of class passes with us studying the stages of mitosis and me trying not to laugh at the awkward conversation between the two people in front of me, 'Really Edward, you asked her about the weather?'

I swore I could feel him glaring at me, but when I looked up, he was calmly talking to my sister about the slides.
By the end of class Angela and I were tied for the golden onion with Edward and Bella, and after a moment of discussion we let Bella and her lab partner have it.

As Angela and I walked out of the classroom towards history after cleaning up the lab, I saw Edward stalk away from where Bella was now standing, confused by her locker.
I raised an eyebrow at her, but she shrugged ‘I’ll tell you later’ she seemed to say.

I shrugged it off as we continued to our next class where I quickly sat down next to Jasper, “Hello, Alex,”

I smiled as I pulled my work out of my bag, “Hey, Jasper.”

We continued to work on project, putting the final touches on the board. After a while, Jasper had taken off his sweater, I guess from being too hot, and I couldn't help but stare at his arms as he slightly rolled his sleeves up.

“Oh my god.” He looked over at me and then followed my eyeline to where I was staring at his arm, and quickly tried to cover it with his shirt, but I lightly grabbed his hand, “Are you ok?”

I looked up from his arm and saw that he had a small smile on his face, “I'm fine, it happened a long time ago.”
He saw that I wasn't fully convinced and put his hand on mine as he smiled even bigger, “I promise I'm fine, you don't need to worry about me, Ducky.”

(Ok, so like, I couldn't think of any good name for him to call Alex, I was gonna do like ‘Darling’ or something but instead I searched up old western slang and it said ‘Ducky’ was apparently an old term of endearment used in the early century, so yeah. Plus, its cute)

I felt my face heat up a little bit and I pulled my hand away, clearing my throat, “Ok, If you say so.”
I turned my head away so he wouldn't see the slight pink on my cheeks, but by the way he laughed, I knew he had.

“What’s wrong, Ducky, you feeling a little sick?”

I felt my face and ears heat up a little more as I turned and glared at his smirking face, “Shut up, Hale. Let's get back to work.”

He nodded and went back to work but still had a smirk on for the rest of class.
At the end of class, we started to clean up and put everything away. And as I was walking away with Angela, Jasper came up beside me,
“Hey, Alex, Do you want to come sit with us at lunch?”

I looked at Angela who looked shocked, but quickly recovered with a smirk on her face, “Yeah, go on, Alex, its fine.”

I looked back at Jasper, “Sure, I'll eat with you guys.”

As he walked away, I turned to say goodbye to Angela, but she quickly pulled me close to her and whispered in my ear, “Go get him, cowboy.”

I gave her an ‘are you kidding me?’ look as I once again felt my face warm. I could hear her laughing as I quickly made my way to the end of the hall where Jasper was standing with a little smirk on his face, before we continued to the cafeteria.
