I can practically feel the thoughts racing through my head after David told me about dreams- and, to be honest, I really don't believe him. Maybe him and his weirdo friends got the whole entire town to trick me into thinking I was the queen of an alternate world. right as i was about to accuse them of tricking me, David broke the silence. "Let's go show Evelyn the city of dreams! And while we're driving, we can answer any of Evelyn's questions. Right, everyone?" "Right!" they all chirped. now what should I do? part of me wants to give in, try to believe them, and the other part wants to start yelling and screaming about how they were so mean to trick me on my birthday. Figuring there might be a better outcome to my first choice, I decided to suck it up and just go with them. Even if they were just a bunch of crazy people, I really didn't want to throw a tantrum in front of them in case they were all just a bunch of mature twenty eight year old's who are actually telling the truth. "wait, Evelyn. Did you open your pouch? You should before it suffocates." Nilu grabs the tiny pouch she gave me out of my satchel and hands it to me. I slowly open it, half expecting a sword or something. suddenly, a tiny glowing thing comes flying out and lands on my head. "that was the smallest species of fairie, most people use them as pets. but they can only be given as a present from another fairie species to a member of a different race- fairies are very particular." Nilu explains. a fairie? like Tinkerbell or something?! I can hardly believe my eyes as she drifts down onto my hand. her tiny feet tickle it, and i become even more excited. how can this even be happening? "um, hello?" i say quietly down to her, my voice shaky and disoriented. she turns and waves to me, her small dainty hand barely seen. "OKAY!" the guys shout, obviously not interested in dainty little fairies. "lets get moving. we have a lot to show Evelyn!!" a few minutes later we are away from the complex of houses and through Fields of... something. "what is that?" I ask, pointing to the Fields of what seems to be cotton candy. "it's the fairies' special food- i guess you could say- that they harvest for most of the year.it's called far-ay. It basically goes into everything we eat here. When we stop for lunch, you'll know why!" David explains. As we drive out of the cotton candy land, i see a complex of houses off to the right. as we get closer, the houses look weirder and weirder. now that we're up close, i can see that the rooftops are made of huge leaves and the rest is cabin-style. there are flower- covered vines snaking up the sides of each home, and plenty of trees everywhere. "HEY! LET"S STOP AT MRS. CULLIGAN'S!" Elijah exclaims- obviously Mrs. Culligan is a pretty cool lady! "sounds awesome!" Mia agrees. Before I can imagine Mrs. culligan, we pull up to a small cottage with a sign just above the door reading MRS CULLIGANS FAIRIE CAFE. David tells me to cover everything up with my cloak, and then we walk inside. The cafe is empty except for a short, squat old lady with pale pink hair. "Oh lookie! Its the David squad. i haven't seen you guys in so long!" Mrs culligan must know David. David looks anxiously around, then says to Mrs. culligan, "Its nice to see you too, Mrs Culligan! But can you quickly bring us to the back room? We have a special guest with us and... um.. she probably shouldn't be seen." He seems almost worried, as if some ninjas might swoop in and kidnap me. "sure, honey!" Mrs. Culligan replies. as soon as she leads us to the quiet, back room, she seems to finally notice me. she looks me up and down, pats down her apron, and says, " I'm pretty sure I know what this is about." as she smiles slyly. "Evelyn, take off your cloak." good. it was getting pretty stuffy in there. I slide the hood off and let my long blonde hair flow free. "Evelyn Janner. of course." she says, smiling contently.
