So the 4th of July is tomorrow, and it falls on a Friday. That means morning fireworks with Augustine and night fireworks with Betty. I've been doing this back and fourth thing between them for over a month now, and Augustine and I have said we love each other. But then sometimes I'm riding on my skateboard passed Betty's house and it's like I can't breathe.

-July 4th, 11am-

"I wish your dad would let you spend the holiday away from the house." Augustine groans, waking up in my arms again.

"Me too, but we have family traditions that I can't skip out on if I want to come back here on Monday." I lied, brushing her hair out of her face.

We got up and put our clothes on, heading out to the kitchen. Augustine cooked pancakes and we ate them out on the beach where her neighbors were setting off fireworks. They were all much older than us so we were able to be, uh. I don't know. Like, a couple. Around other people. But we're, we're not a couple. We just act like one, a lot. Anyway.

Her neighbors had hot dogs and hamburgers that they offered us, but we declined. Augustine was sat between my legs, my arms around her waist and her arms holding mine in place. Between the salt air and her strawberry shampoo, mixed with the food right off the grill. I didn't want to leave this moment. But I missed Betty.

-July 4th, 7pm-

Augustine dropped me off at home around 2:30pm and I immediately called Betty over. We had hot dogs and hamburgers, along with Sierra Mist. We laid out blankets on the ground and watched the fireworks for hours.

"James, you know, after my birthday in September I'm heading off to New York University. Have you decided if you're moving there with me even though you're taking a year off? Or are you staying in town so you can keep working your job and saving up?" I didn't have a job, I had an Augustine. Although sometimes it seems those are one and the same.

"I actually haven't decided yet, but I promise I'll have a decision for you soon."
