"Wh-What?"

I don't know why I was finding this so unbelievable when everything else that has happened over the last week has been equally insane.

"Yeah... your father is the only known living person with mind control abilities, which made him even more valuable than normal Kings."

"So... do I have the same abilities?"

I'm not entirely sure how I feel about this.

"From what I can tell, I think so. With what happened with the Evil One the other night-"

"What did happen with that guy? I felt like I couldn't breathe and I started panicking. I eventually lost consciousness altogether, I don't remember much at all besides my head feeling like it was exploding. Wait a second, was he an air user?"

My mind was going a mile a minute, although I think that was kind of obvious in the way I was talking.

I could see Alex hesitate, but I'm not sure why.

The guy just fell to the ground and was unconscious.

After a few more seconds he answered me.

"He was an air user. A very experienced one too. You're lucky he was alone and that I found you before more showed up. As for the pain in your head, that was your powers awakening."

"My powers what now?"

I'm confused once again.

I'm starting to get very irritated with this feeling of confusion 24/7.

"Most teens have their powers awakened at the school by teachers who know what they're doing when they're fourteen. If they, for whatever reason, never have their powers awakened at the Academy most of them just grow up without them like normal humans. My only guess is that since you wield the strongest gift and your life was in danger that that's what awakened your powers for you. Normally your powers awakening like that without help, is a sign that you're going to be exceptionally skilled at wielding your gift."

Wow... that's a lot to take in.

I knew something was off with that headache!

"I didn't even know I had powers, much less mind control. I doubt "exceptional" will ever be used in the same sentence as my name, especially when it comes to this "gift".

I put air quotations around the word gift.

"I know you don't see it now, but in time you'll come to love it. There are lots of good teachers at the Academy who will be dying to work with you. I'll be there as well to help give you extra training sessions and get you in fighting shape. I'm only a trainee myself, but I've got about three months until I graduate, so I know most everything that they're going to teach. I already help out with most of the beginners anyway."

Something about knowing Alex would be there calmed me down slightly.

At least that was one familiar face in the sea of new ones I was going to be meeting whenever we went to the Academy.

I really hoped that was still a couple weeks away.

I snap myself out of my thoughts and go back to asking questions.
