Chapter 17

"Why are you here?" I asked and walked in the living room. "Well you left me on the street, I felt stupid but I knew you were nervous. No need to be nervous, I don't bite or something." Tara laughed. "I'm sorry about that earlier...I was really nervous because you're the first girl I actually...you know..." I looked at the ground. "Like?" she asked and I nodded.

I sat down next to her on the couch and she turned her face in my direction. "Yeah I understand that. You had a boyfriend before all this right?" she asked. I nodded shyly. "Yea...but he broke up with me right before this shit started." I replied and she looked confused and kinda angry. "For real? What an asshole. What happened, if I'm allowed to ask?" she asked and I told her everything about Negan and my Mum.

"Damn, I'm sorry for your Mum..." she said. "It's okay, I kinda knew she would die in that apocalypse...it's normal that people die, I have to get over it. I really just want to know if Negan is still alive." I said and looked at the ground. I felt a hand around my shoulders and looked at Tara. "I can help you find him if you want to?" she offered.

"I don't even know where to search for him." I said. "Okay yeah you're right." she said and we both chuckled.

We talked 40 minutes about our lives before the apocalypse and what we did before that all. "It's already 11pm, I should go home now. It was nice to talk to you Ava." Tara said and stood up from the couch. "Yes it was, we should do this more often." I winked and she nodded laughing.

I followed her to the door and she hugged me. "Good night" I said and hugged her back. "See you tomorrow." she said and walked away.

I got to bed right after she left but thought about Negan the whole night. He even appeared in my dream.

I woke up the next morning and never slept that good. The bed was really comfortable and warm. I was finally able to close my eyes without being prepared for a zombie attack. I got out of bed, grabbed some clothes, walked in the bathroom and took a quick shower. The warm water over my skin felt so good and I was finally clean again. After I got out I dressed and put on my black jeans, boots and a grey hoodie with my leather jacket.

As I walked downstairs in the kitchen I opened the cabinets and found cereal. I took it, placed it on the kitchen counter, searched for a bowl a spoon and the milk and started to eat. After I finished I placed the bowl in the sink and right after that I heard a knock on the door. As I opened it I saw Rick standing on the porch smiling at me.

"Morning" I smiled. "Mornin. How was your sleep?" he asked. "The best I had for months." I replied and stepped out and closed the door. "I organised a meeting in 15 minutes, please be there I will introduce you to the whole group. Please go and get Kate too." he said and I nodded. "I think she's awake and Daryl is there, he'll show you where we meet." he told me and left.

As I reached the medical room I knocked and stepped in. "Good morning." I said in the room and got a good morning back from everyone else. "How's your leg Kate?" I asked and sat down next to her. "Still hurts but pain killers help me." she said.

"Uhm Daryl, Rick said there's a meeting in 15 minutes and you should show us the way." I said and he nodded. "Sure, I'll take you there" "Here are some crutches for you." Denise said and handed them to Kate. "Thank you Doc." she said and smiled. "Let's go then." Daryl said and we both helped Kate up.

The meeting took place in a small church that was filled with the residents of Alexandria. Daryl held the door open for Kate and me and I saw Rick at the front, so we walked towards him and he made a motion for us to sit down on the two chairs that stood next to him.

"Now that everyone arrived, let's start." he said.

"Those two girls are our new members. This is Ava" he said and pointed his hand at me. I stood up and waved shyly and sat back down. "And this is Kate, her tendon is torn so please be careful" he said and Kate waved too. "They are both new and Carol and Daryl found them about 20 minutes away from our gates. They've been walking alone for months and searched a sanctuary. Welcome to our community. We will have an eye on both of you, and try to build trust so don't mess that up please." Rick said and smiled.

"We won't do anything stupid here, we're just trying to make our best and if you need any help from us...or me, just ask" I replied.

"Alright you can go now, except the ones I told earlier to stay." Rick said and the people walked out. Just a few of them stayed and stopped in front of us. "So, girls, let me introduce to you some of our best people."

"That's Abraham" he pointed at a man with ginger hair and a mustache. I waved and he waved back. "Glenn and Maggie. Sasha, Aaron, Michonne, my son Carl" he pointed at a boy with a hat and a bandage around his eye. He held his hand out and Kate and I both shook it. "Then we have Rosita, Tara, Eugene, Carol and you already know Daryl here." Rick said and Kate and I both said hello to everyone and waved.

"Nice to meet you two." Maggie said and shook our hands. "Nice to meet you too." I said and smiled. "That's my husband Glenn, if you need anything from us, just come by and we can help you" Maggie said and I thanked her. "Maggie is pregnant in her 18th week, so 4 months." Rick smiled and Maggie rolled her eyes in a chuckle. "Oh myyy, congratulations!" Kate and I both yelled. "Thanks girls, I can't wait to be a father!" Glenn shouted and smiled from ear to ear.

"It's also nice to meet you others too!" I said and smiled at the other ones. They smiled back and a few shook our hands. We all talked for a bit before Rick spoke up "Y'all are free to go home now, Kate you should go back to Denise and rest." he said and we nodded. They all left the church and Kate and I stayed for a second to talk to Rick. Daryl stayed too so he could help Kate go back to Denisa and me to go back to our house.

"Rick, thank you so much again. We arrived yesterday and no one knows us but they still greet us like we're a part of your community." I said. "That's our task, we save people and help them." he said. "Thank you again. See you" I said and shook his hand.

Daryl accompanied Kate to Denise and me home. "Thank you Daryl" Kate said and hugged him tight. "You both are so cute." I said and Kate blushed. "Always Kate, rest now, I'll come by later." Daryl said and Kate nodded.

"Thanks" I said as we reached our house. "I guess from now on I know the way" I said and Daryl laughed. "Well that's cool, if you need anything, just tell me." he said, I nodded and we both smiled.

I got inside and ate something before I went to bed.
