Chapter 12: Taking Risks

Things have gotten a bit awkward and the two have gotten distant and Chaeyoung hates it. Is she back to zero again? Because damn, getting her attention is a really hard thing to do.

They should've went to the doctor that day after their trip but since they were all tired, they decided to reschedule it to the next day. Now, it wasn't their fault that Dahyun pushed her into going on the trip with them despite them having an appointment with the doctor.

They couldn't leave the little one alone in Chaeyoung's apartment so Mina thought she should leave him to her bestfriend, Momo for now.

Chaeyoung watches Mina and his brother walk up to a Momo's house and got greeted by the girl who yelled at her the first day she got on Mina's nerves. But this time she's calmer but not losing that chilling side glances.

They we're talking faintly for her to hear and she kept meeting the girl's eyes, is she glaring? Indeed, she is.

She clears her throat and put up a smile but the girl didn't do the same thing back and instead continued talking to Mina before the latter hands her her brother's hand and led him in.

Mina then went back to the car and that's when she starts the engine and drove off.
"Is she... cool with me?"

Mina nods and signs a thumbs up, before looking out the window, hands on her own lap.

The air was tensed, they both know it and Chaeyoung doesn't want it to stay like that, she can't have her feeling all distant around her because heck, they just got closer and now they're back to acting like strangers, all because of what?

The ride to the doctor continued on like that. Chaeyoung's heart doesn't want it this way.

"Alright Ms. Son, we'll be heading inside now." The nurse said to Chaeyoung who is stood up from the seat and anxiously looked at Mina who is already laid on the wheeled stretcher.

She raises her hand and opens her mouth to say something but the nurse didn't caught it, nodding once then smiling, the nurse started pushing the stretcher inside the operation room. The last thing she saw was Mina's somber look.

She then remembered what the doctor said to them on their first checkup.
"What she has is a vocal cord paralysis. Due to the blunt trauma caused by the car accident her larynx was disrupted, she needs to undergo laryngial framework surgery to restore the original shape of her larynx."

"But telling from the amount of time she's been under this condition, without medications and medical interventions we only got 50/50 chance that the operation will be successful, we can't be sure that she'll be able to talk normally again." the doctor spoke with a serious tone.

Chaeyoung just listened on, spacing out in between the lines.

"Telling by her statistics as well, for her to undergo an operation at her current condition, I gotta say, it's quite risky. Her body condition is not in its healthy state. But then again, the chances of it coming out successful is decreasing each day, month, year."

"The decision is up to you and miss Myoui." the doctor lastly says, Chaeyoung meets his gaze for a second. He knows this look, she's contemplating. The once hopeful look is wavering.

Chaeyoung breathes out, sprinting towards the stretcher and took hold of the handle. The nurse looked at her questioningly, she bowed at her then looked at Mina who also noticed her presence but said nothing.

Chaeyoung swallows then opens her mouth to speak.
"I'll see you."

Mina's eyes sideglanced her.
"I'll see you after the operation. So, do your best, because the doctor will do his best." she doesn't care if she's desperate but right now, she's just nervous as heck and wants the operation to go well.
