AS LONG AS WE'RE HAPPY

The doctors let me out yesterday because nothing else was wrong. Chelsea and i have been better to each other. It's been alright. I did miss her warm smile. Her soothing g voice, and her delicious food.

"Chelsea" i looked at her standing by the kitchen sink, fetching herself a glass of water as she comes and joins me by the kitchen stools.

"Yes honey?" She smiled at me.

"Who's my father?" I questioned. This was the question most single mothers wouldn't dare answer because it's like salt to the wound. It's so personal, but it affects me. Soil should know.

"Oh your father." She looks up as if remembering his face. She smiles. "Mateo was a handsome young man. I met him when i was 15 and he was 17 we instantly feel in love. He was from a rich background,  and we weren't rich. Just middle class citizens. We began dating at that time. I fell pregnant with you my baby, when i was 16. I kept it a secret until it was 2 months old. I told mum. She flipped at first, but later, she calmed down. Then i had to let Mateo know. When i did. He promised that he'd take care of you. That we'd never lack anything for as long as he was still alive" she lightly chuckles. Thinking about him. My father. Mateo.

"Unfortunately life had other things in store for us. Mrs Lopes wasn't happy about her son -being the heir to a large family business- to marry a commoner. She tried breaking us up. We remained firm. Day to day, he assured me that we'd be happy" she smiled at me, a slight crack forming in her voice. "Mateo loved me. Then one day, he just left. With no trace. Mrs Lopes left me five hundred thousand dollars and they disappeared."

Seeing Chelsea like that broke my heart. She was always a beautiful soul, who cared for people despite their actions.  Watching a stray tear fall down her cheek shattered my already broken heart.

"Now" she smiled at me, as if she wasn't crying just a few seconds ago. Chelsea was strong, she never broke down in front of anyone. I was proud of this woman, this woman who is, my mother.

"Tell me about jayden" she teased. Her infectious laugh filling my room.

"What, there's nothing to tell" i teased back, hoping she'd let it go.

"Well, you're going to tell me.  Eventually, in the mean time. Let's go eat. " she yawned. She barely had any sleep while I was in the  hospital i felt terrible for allowing myself to get to that point, i wasn't a drug addict. I've always seen drugs as sort of a crutch for people who wanted to escape their realities. Chelsea on the other hand, always stressed the importance of being strong, being strong enough to handle your own feelings during moments of trouble.

-Jayden

I sat there lying on my bed, staring at the high ceilings, with feelings of disgust churning i  my stomach,  wondering why on earth Brandon hit my girl. Maybe, he was high,  maybe he was drunk,  fuck, all i know is, tomorrow is am going to kill that son of a bitch.

Aunty Grace and her new boyfriend or whatever relationship they possess are really starting to get on my nerves. They leave at 5 in the morning, sometimes they come back, sometimes they don't, i was struggling to describe that warmness being carried away, and the feeling of loneliness, that haunted my heart since the day my mother took her own life.  For what, i don't know.

The faint shouting grew pulled me out of my thoughts as I heard multiple voices arguing downstairs. The name Grace was being thrown around everywhere. I decided to go check out who was making such a noise .

As I reached the bottom step, i could somehow make sense of their conversation.

"He will kill me if i don't do this Lopes" a woman, who I concluded to be aunty Grace spoke. She was in the kitchen, as she spoke, i entered, and she was with a middle aged man, his jet black hair, and strong features made him look intimidating, but I wasn't scared of anyone. As I got closer i recognised this man. He was the same guy aunt Grace has been going out with ever since she came back.

"Ah, Jayden " the man smiled as he noticed me approaching them. "So good to meet you" he spoke with a hint of a Spanish accent. I didn't budge, something about this man was wrong, he just had a negative aura surrounding him. I didn't trust the guy. I mean, he was with Aunt Grace and i don't trust her either, so yeah.

"What are you doing here" i questioned, he realised that I'm on to them.

"Oh i was just talking to my lovely girlfriend about a business deal she has to sign" he spoke smiling, i found that extremely weird, why is he smiling all the time. He looked so comfortable, so relaxed. I glanced at Aunt Grace, and she gave me an assuring nod.

"Well i best be leaving, I'll see you tomorrow sweetheart"  he smirked at my Aunt, then left.

"Who the fuck is that" i demanded.

"Stay out of it Jayden " she grabbed her purse and started walking away.

"I said, who. The. Fuck. Is. That" i said, enunciating each word.

"He's Mateo Lopes, he's a rich business man, his deals are what's best for us, for you"
She smiled. I really don't like this woman. I have to put up with her anyways, she's the only one who can help me.

I noticed that Hayley was standing with Beth as I entered the school building, i smiled at her sight. Damn, she broke my walls, i never allowed any other woman to break me, i never cared, but for her, I'd literally commit murder just to see her smile.

"Hello ladies" i greeted them as Beth hugged me. Christian was there behind me, and he greeted his girl with a kiss.

"Hey um Hayley, come here, let's talk" i lead her to the janitors closet.

"Yeah," she looked at me. I scratched the back of my neck, i had to control myself here.

"Hayley,  be my girl" i tried mastering the smoothest, huskiest voice ever, shit this hard.

"Of course" Hayley practically jumped me and began kissing me. Here i thought,  i should control myself.

After school,  we went on an ice-cream date, just the two of us. We talked, a lot. It was that moment that I realised, that the girl sitting across the vintage themed ice-cream shop, the girl who's smile covered half her face, but made my insides melt, the girl who's gaze alone, could turn me on. Damn, i love this girl. She made me happy. I was going to make sure my  girlfriend was happy.
