The rest of the day went on normally. No more freak accidents or weird words in my notebook. I couldn't wait to leave but I had detention. I would've skipped but that could get me expelled and I don't want to rebuild my status at a new school. It'd take too long. So I went in to Mr. Absen's room and sat down.
"I don't understand why kids don't know how to be on time! Back in my day..." Annnd this is where I space out. He sometimes take the bulk of the class to talk about "Back in his day when kids learned respect" and bullshit I don't care about. So I let him go on as I rest my head on the desk. My eyelids felt heavy as I slowly fall asleep.
It's dark and the trees are surronding me like they're trying to keep me in. I run farther into the woods trying to escape the clutches of the person chasing me. I run till my lungs burn. I rest by an old tree, almost falling to my knees, resting my hand on the rough bark. Oh God, my legs are on fire and I feel blood in my lungs. I can taste it. The forest is dead silent. No bugs or animals or even the wind. Just my panting breath. I stand up fully again. I need to keep running. I start and run a little further. A hand clamps over my ankle. I scream and fall down into the dirt. It pulls me roughly back to the dead tree. I claw at the ground, calling for somebody, anybody to help me. The person pins me to the tree, wrapping a thick rope of some kind around my chest, putting my arm behind me. A cloth covers my mouth and they tie it tight around my head. I can hear them muttering something, inaudible for the quiet of it and the pounding heartbeat in my ears. Something glimmers in the moonlight that shines in my eyes. I was a jagged dagger in their hands. I scream through the cloth as they raise up the dagger. Tears fall from my eyes. It strikes down.
"Mr. McKingly!" I shot up, gasping for air as sweat forms around my forehead. I look around. I'm back in the classroom. I'm safe. I'm in detention. It was just dream. I put my face in my hands.
"My God are you alright boy?" he placed a hand on my back. No, I'm not okay motherfucker! I had a nightmare of me dying!
"I'm fine" I mumbled through my hands. I looked at the clock. I was asleep through the entire detention.
"You should go now. Get some rest" Mr. Absen said. He didn't have to tell me twice. I grabbed my stuff and went out the door. The school was completely empty. Nothing but the sound of my shoes echoing in the hallway. My breathing quickned a bit. A ginourmous old school empty with a psycho after me? Just add the suspense music now. I heard a locker clang a little bit. I turned around. Light shined through the big windows but other than that nothing. It was completly empty. I kept walking, my pace quickening. Another locker banged, even louder and closer. I broke out into a run, not looking back. I leaped outside and down the steps to my car. I got in and took a breather. Something is going on. I don't know what it is but it is. There has to be a logical answer. I know Violet is the culprit, I just don't know how she's doing it or how to prove it. I took a deep breath and started the car. Nothing happened. I tried again. It flooded
"No, No..." I groaned. I tried again. It died. I slammed the steering wheel with my hands. Of fucking course. I took out my phone and called Dean. Dean was an auto mechanic in Omaha. He and my dad are close friends and we've been using him forever. To us, he's the best in town. The dial tone rang my ears untill he picked up.
"'Dean's Place'. Dean speaking." he answered in his gruff voice.
"Hey Dean, it's Ferris"
"Oh! Ferris! Hey, how you doing champ? How's the parents?"
"I'm fine. Mom and Dad are on a business trip" I rolled my eyes. They both work for a software company and have to negotiate with other countries that correspond with it. Right now it's a three month trip abroad in Japan. They'll be coming back in two months. But then be stuck in there office untill another trip comes up. Sometimes I think they leave just to leave.
"That's good. What can I do for you champ?" he asked.
"My car broke down in fornt of my school. I need it towed. Can you do that?"
"Same high school?"
"Yeah"
"Might take a bit. I got a car I'm working on. I'll do it in about an hour." I sighed.
"Kay. I'll just catch a ride. Thanks man"
"Don't mention it. Say hi to your parents for me"
"I will," If they ever call or pick up mine,"Bye"
"See ya" I hung up and got out of the car. I called Cal. He picked up right away.
"Hey man. Mr. Ass didn't bore you to death?" I chuckled.
"Fell asleep actually. Hey, could you give me a ride back to your place? My car broke down."
"Sure thing man. Be there in a sec"
"Kay thanks" I hung up. After two minutes, his slightly rusty cadillac pulled up. I hoped in the passenger side. I pushed aside some food wrappings and tried to avoid the sticky substance by the head rest.
"Seriously, just say the word and I can get you a new car" I said.
"Don't. I don't need to be pampered. Especially from you" He smiled at me. He put it in drive and went down the road.
"Thanks man. Didn't mean to interrupt whatever little arm candy you had with you" Cal laughed.
"Oh, please. you get all the girls anyway. Serinna's lucky" I smiled. I'm more lucky to be honest. We met Junior year in the middle of March. She was the new girl, pretty like always and full of smiles. I had to snatch her quick because I knew someone else would if I beated around the bush. I'm lucky. The luckiest guy on the planet. Well, before today.
"Earth to Ferris..." I snapped out of my little daydream down memory lane. I looked up. We're at my place.
"Thanks man." I got out of the car. We both said bye and I headed inside the house. I dropped my keys, jacket, backpack and shoes. I crashed on the couch. Today was hell and scary and confusing and stupid and...ugh! I want to hit something! I hate this. I rolled over on to my side and tried to rest. But that made it worst. If I rest, I focus on the day. I don't want to focus on the shittiest day of my life. I got up and reached for my backpack. I started on some homework to keep my mind off it. After an hour I heard a bus screech. I looked out the window. Violet was getting off a city transit. Anger boiled in me. If my accusations are true (and I know they are) I have to confront her. I slammed the book shut and stomped out of the house. I made my way over before she stepped inside her house.
"What's your deal!" I shouted at her. She turned around.
"What?" Playing it dumb. Typical.
"You have taking this to ludacris scales you little freak!" She stepped off her porch.
"What are you ranting about?"
"The note, the books, my contacts, the glass...everything! Everything you did to me this morning!'
"The worst I did was make fun of you, like I always have!" Now Violet was yelling. I was getting angrier.
"You're a demented little demon worshiper! Now fess up, how did you do it!"
"I didn't do anything!"
"You're lying!"
"No I'm not!"
"Violet?" We both turned. A small, frail looking woman was at Violet's door. She had the same blue eyes as Violet.
"Everything okay?" she asked.
"Fine mom. Get back inside." Wait. That was her MOM? What the fuck happened? She was a very light and warm lady last time I saw her. Now she looks like a hermit with a cold. Then again, I haven't seen her in a couple years. So, what the hell happened? Violet looked back at me, fire in her eyes.
"I don't know what you think I did or didn't do and frankly I don't care. You have no right to accuse me of anything."
"But I know you did it!" I hissed.
"Then prove it" She said so low I almost couldn't hear it and she walked back in to her house, slamming the door shut. I sighed. She was right. I don't have a shred of proof. But I have to get some. Somehow.
