Briana:

Tuesday, May 7th

I glance over at the door again and then back at the tv that's mounted on the wall when I don't see Alec. He should be here by now. Almost all of us from the bakery have met up at the Siren's Pub for the party except for Alec and I have no idea where he is. I don't know, maybe he had to stop at home for something. He's always forgetting random stuff at home. One time he forgot one of his socks and had to borrow a spare one from Lucky.

I glance back over at the door, even though I know that Alec probably didn't magically show up in the last five minutes and, just like I thought, he's not there. "Ugh." I look over at everyone else, all enjoying themselves and not really paying attention to me, and feel my boredom really set in. We agreed not to order until Alec got here and since my phone's dead, I have nothing to keep me occupied until he gets here. "God Alec, please get here soon," I groan to myself, feeling my brain slowly start to shrivel from boredom.

"Briana!" I look over to the door and see Alec standing there looking like a lost puppy. I wave at him and yell," Over here Alec!" He looks around for me and spots me, after nervously heading off in the wrong direction, and then weaves his way over to my table. Once he gets over to our table, he plops down next to me and lowers his head to whisper," Was anyone mad?" Yeah, that's Alec; always worrying if he made someone mad. He looks over at everyone else while popping his fingers repeatedly and biting his lip so hard it looks like it's going to bleed.

I lower my head too and whisper back," No, everyone was just wondering where you were." Alec relaxed once I told him that, slumping back in his chair and giving his poor lip a break. "Yeah, I was just walking around this car wreck that got a really big crowd around it."

"A wreck? Was it on 5th Street?" Earlier a news channel, one that I hate, was on and the anchor mentioned that a bad wreck happened on 5th Street. Alec nodded and said," Yeah, it looked pretty horrible. The driver was lying on the street all bruised and everything and the cars looked completely destroyed." He shuddered and started biting one of his nails absentmindedly, while I felt a wave of revulsion roll through me. I just can't stand gore; whenever I see it or even hear about it, it makes my insides feel like they're being twisted.

I look over to the tv to see if they're talking about the wreck again and then say,"Shit, that sounds horrible. Was the driver alive?" I hope the driver's alive; knowing that someone died only ten minutes from here will make the whole evening a bit depressing and will probably make this area a little cursed for me. Alec shook his head and said,"I couldn't really tell. But it'd be hard to-" "What're you two whispering about?" Our annoying and narcissistic coworker Andrew butted into our conversation, just like he does at work, and looked at us like a disappointed parent. God, I hate this guy. I put on a fake smile, just to get him to leave, and chirped in a horrible falsetto," Oh nothing, just passing time while we wait for the food."

Alec snorted at my incredibly fake act of niceness and covered his mouth so Andrew wouldn't hear. Luckily Andrew's ego was so inflated that he couldn't hear anything but my empty words of kindness. I kept on smiling at him, my cheeks already hurting and my soul slowly dying, and he smiled back at me with an equally fake smile and then went back over to his also incredibly egoistic friends.

"Finally, he's gone," I whisper to Alec, sinking into my chair relieved that I don't have to play nice with that self-centered idiot. Alec let out a few of the snorts he was holding in and then whispered back," Yeah me too. He has the charm of a turd floating in an ego the size of an ocean." We both started giggling and snorting like little kids at that, Alec sounding like a piglet almost, and I think it might have concerned a few of the people next to us.
