"Welcome to Abe's Antiques. Is there anything I can help you with?" I ask, as a tall, lanky looking customer walks in. It's been a twenty-four hours since I told Abe and Henry about me knowing Adam. Things have been normal-ish, considering Henry seems to be very over protective over me.
The customer walks up to the desk and looks at me, "Elizabeth?" He asks, I take a look at his face, it's rather old and has wrinkles all over. I feel as though I know him.
"Yes?" I ask, a little skeptically. Abe walks in and smiles at me. I brush my hair back and smile at him. The customer takes my hand in his then it comes to me, "Jasper." I say, breathlessly. I pull my hand back and back into Abe.
"I thought you died all those years ago." Jasper says, looking between Abe and I.
"I'm sorry, sir, you have the wrong person." I lie, pulling my hair to one side.
"No, no, I don't. I know you're Elizabeth Cox." He objects, shaking his head in a rough manner.
I look at Abe and shrug, "Yes, my name is Elizabeth, but you are mistaking me for someone else. My last name is-"
"Morgan." Abe finishes for me. "She is my granddaughter." I shoot Abe a thankful look.
Jasper frowns and nods, "Okay." He turns and walks out the door.
I let out a sigh of relief, "Thank you, Abe."
He nods as I walk back to the desk, Abe asks, "Who was he?"
I frown at his question and turn to him, "He was almost obsessed with me. We went on one date and he never left me alone. I faked my own death, sort of, to get away from him." I say, shaking my head. "He wasn't always that bad, really. Pushy? Maybe; but I delt with it." I shrug, turning to straighten up the desk.
Abe hums and says, "I'm sure you did."
I giggle and turn to him, nodding then saying, "Yeah, ya know, faking your death isn't all that fun." He nods as Henry walks in with Jo, "Hello. How was work, Henry?" I ask, placing my elbows on the desk and then my head in my hands.
He smiles at me then responds, "Lovely, thanks for asking. How has your day been?"
I shrug as Abe replies, "The usual, not much business." Henry nods, "And how are you, Jo?" Abe asks her.
She shrugs and says, "Okay." Abe and I nod looking at each other. "And how are you two?"
"Okay." Abe and I say the same time.
I hear paw steps coming down the stairs and groan, "Abe, we might have a problem." He looks at me with eyebrows furrowed. I point to the stairs as I see black fur.
"Oh!" He exclaims, looking at Jo, "How is he going to react to her?"
"I don't know. We'll have to see." I reply, walking over to Dewey.
"Who is this?" Jo asks, noticing the one hundred twenty-one pound dog beside me.
"Dewey, he's my baby." I smile patting his shoulder.
She makes a face, "Oh."
Henry looks between her and I then frowns, "Okay, so are you two doing anything interesting today?"
I shrug and look over at Abe, who also shrugs, "Not that I know of. Probably working here." I say, sending Dewey back up stairs. Henry and Jo nod.
Jo asks, "How much do you know about technology?"
Henry, Abe, and I snort a laugh, "Not that much. I don't have a cell phone, nor do I need or want one." I reply, placing my right hand on my left hip, in a hugging myself fashion.
"Really? I would figure an eighteen year old would have one. Why don't you want one?" She asks, crossing her arms.
I shrug, "I'm too old." I mutter so only Abe could hear me. He stifles a laugh before letting me reply, "I just don't. They don't interest me. Why?"
She raises her head and replies, "Oh, we have a case and thought you would be able to help us."
"I could try, but I do not think I would be of any help." I say and look at Henry who is shaking his head no and moving his hand side to side in front of his neck. I roll my eyes, "Maybe not. I do not think I would be good."
Jo furrows her eyebrows then look at Henry, who stops what he was doing, "Are you sure?" She asks, looking back at me.
I nod and open my mouth to speak but close it when I see Emmett, "Am I interrupting something?" He asks, looking at all of us.
"No, Emmett, you're not. What do you need?" I ask, smiling at him.
Emmett smiles back and says, "I would like to take you to a late lunch, if that's okay?"
I nod them look at Abe, "May I?" I ask, smoothing down my nineteen fifties Era dress. He nods before looking at Henry and shrugging, "Thank you, Abe." I say, hugging him real quick and walking to Emmett.
I feel a hand wrap around my upper arm, "I think not, Elizabeth." Henry says, turning me to him. "You don't know anything about this... boy. He could be a murderer."
I laugh at the irony, "That wouldn't matter." I whisper just loud enough for Henry to hear me. "It's not like it would effect me."
"You know very well that you and I would both be poked and prodded if anyone found out." He harshly whispers back.
I roll my eyes, "Come on, Henry. Let me go." I speak both physically and metiphorically.
"Fine, but I won't like it." He let's my arm go and let's me walk out with Emmett.
"I'm sorry about him. He's a little over protective." I apologize, turning to Henry.
"I can see why." Emmett replies, smiling.
I grab a coat and slip it on before walking out with him. "What was that all about?" I hear Jo ask Henry.
"It's complicated." He sighs replying.
A/N: Hiiii!!! Sorry, my baby rabbit had kits on Thursday and I was making over them. The picture of the two are on the sidebar/top. Also I still need help picking between the two covers from the past two chapters. I don't know which to choose. :) Again I thank @TFASGAwriter for reminding me.
