Right after the both of us had rounded yet another corner in the seemingly endless building, loud yelling of our names erupted in front of us, causing Julie and I to jump in fright. We both shrieked as neither of us knew what was happening for a second.
However, the three ghosts standing (or in Luke's case acting like some sort of acrobat) before us didn't seem fazed by our mortified expressions. All three of them had a big grin on their face. Soon enough, Julie recovered from the initial fear and glared at the guys. "You! Stop doing that!"
Luke jumped down from his position standing on the others' legs. Julie continued, "I'm serious!"
Reggie put his hands up in defense and raised his eyebrows innocently. "Whoa! This one's all on you. We were already here. Well, actually, we were over there," he pointed to the back of the room, "and then we came over here." His hands motioned to their current position. I huffed from behind Julie, my hand still resting on my chest as I tried to catch my breath. Hearing my reaction, Reggie turned to look at me, quickly looking back at Julie as a scowl that was almost identical to the latter's, made its way onto my face as well.
Luke spoke up as Alex came to stand beside me and silently patted my head in apology. "Are we not gonna talk about what just happened?"
"Yeah. The whole school saw you. It's freaking me out." Julie's expression didn't quite resemble Luke's excited one.
I looked away from her, hearing Alex gasp softly. "Okay, good. 'Cause it's kinda freaking me out, too. You know, the two of you could see us, and- and I can touch you," he nodded his head towards me, " Julie's dad heard me when I talked to you, and then people could see us whenever we play music. And my clothes are made of air, but for some reason, I'm still getting a wedgie." This time, it was my turn to pat him on the head.
Reggie and Julie made a weird face upon hearing his confession, while Luke just nodded with his lips pressed together. My cousin inhaled sharply. "So many questions."
"The important thing is that we rocked that place. They were loving you!" Luke exclaimed, praising Julie, and I nodded in agreement with a slight smile on my face.
"Are you kidding? They loved us!" My friend turned towards me as she finished her sentence. "Really, Abs, it would've been perfect if all of us had been up there."
My smile grew as I put my arm around her shoulder in a side-hug. "Well, Jules, we wouldn't want me to steal all the spotlight." I teased her a little, causing her to send me a playful glare. I turned to look back towards the three ghosts as I directed my next words to the four of them.
"You were all so awesome. I'm not even overexagerating 'cause I'm your friend. You sounded so well together, it's like Julie's been a part of Sunset Curve ever since it started." They all grinned at my words.
Reggie turned to Luke, quietly murmuring. "Aw, she's our friend."
I continued our conversation. "And, Luke, that song was even better in real life. Probably because Julie here", I shook her shoulder a little, the girl letting out a soft laugh as she put her head on my shoulder, "absolutely rocked it, but it was beautiful." The boy just winked in response, yet again, before returning his attention to Julie as she spoke.
"She's right. Thank you."
"And-and did you guys see the chearleaders looking at me? I think they were looking at me. Please tell me they were looking at me." Reggie rambled on, directing the last part of his speech towards Luke as he grabbed the boy's shoulders. The rest of us chuckled.
Luke mimicked Reggie, grabbing his shoulders as well. "Bro, they were looking at you."
Reggie squealed at this newly gained confirmation. "Oh, I knew it!"
