I gasped for air, and my eyes shot open. I grabbed my throat, the same one that was burning in pain a moment ago.
I glided the same hand on my stomach, looking at my hand, there was no blood.
I decided to look around. What sat in front of me was a man I've seen many times before, but never truly spoken to. He was too busy reading to notice me, or perhaps he didn't care to acknowledge it.
"Kai?", I stuttered his name, he glanced up for a split second. He adjusted his glasses, and closed the book he had in his hands.
His blank expression made me feel uneasy. I began turning my head, seeing someone sitting right next to him.
It was a girl. Golden hair to her shoulders. Her skin looked like it used to be fair, but was now tinted yellow. Her expression looked.. Angry. It was frozen in place. She was dead.
Next to me was another girl, brown hair tied in a bun. She had a blanket covering her body, yet in contrast she looked ... Upset.
I looked back at Kai. "Where ... Are we?", I asked him, he peeked a look at both of them.
"We're in a caravan", he leaned back, he put the book between him and the girl next to him. My eyes danced back and forth.
"But I ...", I couldn't wrap my head around it. "So did I", he stared blankly at me. In shock, I slowly turned my head and gaze towards him.
He scratched his nose, and looked out the window. Much to our surprise, we heard someone gasp for air shortly after. It was the angry-looking one.
She stared empty into space for a second, I assume she was processing everything. It didn't take long before she noticed the two of us staring at her.
"What the fuck do you want?", she crossed her arms, and the anger returned to her face. I quickly looked away, not wanting to upset her any further.
----
She looked in front of her, and covered her mouth for a split second. "What happened to her?", Kai looked at the body in front of her as well.
"I don't know", I muttered, no one did. She looked at us both. "Can someone tell me why I'm in the back of a carriage with two strangers and a dead body?", she narrowed her eyebrows, in an attempt to look intimidating.
I looked back at Kai, she followed my lead. He looked back at both of us, "I'll explain when everyone's awake", he grabbed his book again, and opened it.
"Are you telling me a dead body is going to come back to life?", she looked back at her again. "You did", I said bluntly. She shot a glance at me.
She was difficult to read, I couldn't tell if she was confused or if she wanted to kill me. I avoided her look, and began staring out the window.
Everyone were waiting for answers. Everyone were probably questioning their existence at this moment. At least, I did.
Kai kept reading, and the girl next to him looked like she was reliving her final moments, but she looked more angry than anything.
She tried a few times to get him to tell her where she was and what is going on, but he kept ignoring her.
----
She began to tap her fingers near her knee, she was staring at the girl in front of her. She leaned forward, ready to stretch her arm out.
"What do you think you're doing?", his eyes looked cold, it almost looked like they froze her in place. "Oh now you pay attention to me?", she went back to her seat.
