Valeria Mendez's POV
"I'm fine" I mumble.
I hate when people ask this question, because I know they're most likely not going to do anything about it if I say I'm not.
I am so tired of being exhausted.
"Whatever you're going through, you better fight it off until the day I take your last breath"
Fight it off?
But what am I supposed to do when my own mind is fighting against me?
I keep running away from all my problems.
My mind, my thoughts, everything...
I just keep running with the hope that I'll eventually get used to it. But I never did.
Instead, I grew more and more exhausted until it became too much to handle and I caved in.
And everything I've been running away from caught up to me, faster than I could ever imagine. Can I ever stop running?
I look at him without giving out an answer to his previous words.
I miss him.
Not who he is, but the best friend he used to be.
I miss the person who I'd come to about anything and that will be there to listen.
I miss the little boy that made me want to be the person I am.
He's changed now, but I can't help but miss who he used to be.The pilot escorts me from my thoughts announcing that we will be landing soon.
We clip our seatbelts and I watch down the window.
Colorado.
I just hope we're not too late.

As we come out of the plane, I see a black Mercedes waiting near .
"There's no driver, pass out the keys" I ask, opening my hand.
"Good joke, I'm driving" he announces sarcastically.
"Why you?"
"And why not? You should've let me take my jet and use your cars if you wanted to drive"
"I am driving on the way back then" I argue
"It's-"
"-Whether you like it or not" I cut him off.
We both get in the car and Lorenzo starts driving with the only perceptible sound being the GPS.
His phone suddenly starts ringing as he picks it up.
"Hello," he starts .
He quickly gets on the side of the road.
"Are you sure there is no other way?" He asks angrily. "Fine, send me the details"
"Do you mind explaining?" I finally speak.
"Do you mind giving me the time to?" He debates. "Ivan delayed his flight to tomorrow morning. So they booked us a hotel reservation for the night"
He enters something in his phone and puts it back in its place.
"But it's only 10 AM" I point out.
"You got a better idea? There's nothing we can do. We have to be patient"
"I got my best friend in there and you think I'll just wait around all day and do nothing?"
"Your brilliant mind can always illuminate us with a genius plan if you have one!"
He fixes back the gear stick and starts driving, following his phone's directions. He expressed his angriness by pressing on the wheel harder than he should. The speed didn't bother me, especially if it meant we would arrive faster to our destination.
The longer we waited, the more I felt like I was losing them. I knew that our best move for now was to stay in the shadows so we could have the element of surprise tomorrow... but I wasn't the patient type of person.

We were both standing in silence with the only perceptible sound being the ding of the elevator letting us know we are one floor higher.
The door opened at the last floor, the 60th, and I went out first as he followed my steps. Our room was the 1051, the last one at the end of the hallway.
We stop at the sight of the double door and I pull the hotel card out. I slide it in the handle and push the doors open.
We both go different ways as we start inspecting the area. It was a beautiful suite with an amazing view. We had two balconies from where we could see the entire town. There's also a little kitchen area and two living rooms with delightful velvet sofas.
I keep looking for the bedrooms when I come to the realization that the only space I haven't inspected yet was a sliding glass door entrance.
Was there only one bedroom? There better be two beds I thought to myself. I enter the chamber and instantly freeze.
"You've got to be kidding me.. who booked our reservation?" I ask
"I think it was your brother, why?" He says joining me.
"This is why" I reply pointing the king size bed in front of us
"Oh shit" he states finally understanding the situation
There was only one bed
