Luke was ready to pluck out every single blonde strand on his head. Why did tonight have to be the night where my hair would be contrary? What if Michael thinks it looks stupid and decides not to take me out? Was he taking me "out" out, like a date, or "out" like friends? Well he obviously doesn't like me but I want to impress him some will just treat it like a date. No that's a bad idea.
Luke kicked the cabinet under his sink, and exited the bathroom. Whatever his quiff looked like now would have to suffice. It's not like Michael would pay attention to how much work luke puts into himself anyway.
6:00. Michael would be here in an hour. And Luke was ready now. He sat in an old wooden chair at his kitchen table and just stared at the clock. 7:00 couldn't come sooner.
*******************************
Michael didn't own much "fancy" clothes. He had some plain tee shirts but that's mostly it. He had thrown out the tux he wore to his parents funeral a long time ago and stored his dad's old clothes in the closet. He wouldn't be able to bear wearing any of it. Or pay for any new clothes for himself; most of the money he earned at the bookstore went to Hannah. She's the only reason he has a job.
Michael stood outside Luke's apartment door dressed in a plain white tee shirt and a pair of black jeans. Fancy enough.
He knocked on the door loudly, and Luke almost fell off his chair. He scrambled to the front door and swung it open, revealing his beautiful Michael standing outside. Only Michael wasn't his.
Michael eyed Luke up and down, taking in his appearance. He was wearing a fake-denim button up shirt with a pair of plain black skinnies and white converse. Michaels jaw almost dropped. He looked amazing. Luke bit his lip and looked down, feeling nervous in Michael's presence all of a sudden. But all Michael could do is stare. He looks so perfect. Michael thought. Shit think of Hannah think of Hannah, you can't do this Michael.
"Ready to go?" Michael said excitedly, dragging luke out the door with him. Luke giggled as michael pulled him to his car in the parking lot. They drove listening to a few green day CDs Michael had kicking around as luke repeatedly asked where they were going.
"Nowhere that special, but it's a secret!" Michael said in his serious voice, not pulling his eyes from the road. Luke huffed in his seat, tapping on the window lightly.
"Are we going to McDonald's play place?" Luke bounced in the seat, making Michael laugh.
"Nope, sorry. Your 30 ft too tall for that. But I think you'll like where we're going." Luke pulled a thread from his shirt. Michael's noticed this small habit of Luke's, constantly picking his clothes sort and he's surprised by the end of the day Luke's not naked and surrounded by a million threads. That not the only thing he's noticed about luke. Luke giggles at everything Michael says and he zones out a lot. If you're not speaking to him he's off in his own world. He also ears a lot of dry toast and is obsessed with John green. Which is a good thing considering where they're going today.
About a week ago they were sitting on Luke's back veranda looking over the city and they were just talking and enjoying each others company. Luke told him that John green was coming to their town. He spoke so passionately about it that Michael would've thought luke had a crush on the author. He's read all his books and wanted to go to his book signing so bad, but didn't have the money. His mom would've gladly paid for it, but she was gone away for work a lot of the time lately. She felt so horrible for leaving Luke alone, but she didn't know that luke had a friend in his life. Or that he was speaking again.
Luke scrunched up his eyebrows as they headed down an unknown street in an unknown part of town. Michael unbuckled his seatbelt and started to get out of the car when he noticed luke hadn't budged.
