Yujin tapped her foot along to the music playing from her airpods. She watched the water ripple, moonlight reflecting off the surface. She threw another rock into the river, and watched it plop into the water with a splash.
"Yujinie?"
Yujin heard the familiar voice and turned around. She removed her airpods and placed them back into the casing.
"Babe?" The purple haired girl smiled and opened her arms. The other girl accepted the hug, wrapping her arms around the athlete. Yujin buried her head into the brown hair, relaxing at the sweet scent.
"Why are you here?" The purple haired spoke first, clinging onto the other girl tightly.
"You disappeared. I was worried, so I went out to look for you." The brown haired smiled playfully.
"You're so cute." The purple haired pinched the other girl's cheeks."Come on, let's go home." Yujin placed her hand on the other's waist.
They walked slowly, talking about anything that came to their minds.
Yujin's phone fell out of her pocket, landing on the road with a soft clatter. The brown haired bent down to pick it up.
She stopped to check for any cracks on the screen.
But Yujin felt a shiver run down her spine.
Something didn't feel right.
She squinted around uneasily. Then it hit her. Quite literally.
A horn blared.
A scream tore itself from the purple haired's throat.
"No!" She shrieked, acting on instinct. She pushed the brown haired as hard as she could.
The car sped down the road, showing no signs of stopping.
One last cry issued from Yujin.
The glass of the windshield shattered, clinking when it hit the floor.
The car tires screeched as the car rounded the corner and disappeared.
And the night was silent once more.
—
"Jinnie!"Something shook her shoulder hard. She forced herself to open her eyes, even though her eyelids felt like they were on fire.
"Are you alright?" A worried face, framed by curtains of black locks, loomed above her own. She wanted to say something, but her throat felt raw and painful.
"I- had a night...mare." Her voice cracked. She brushed away the strands of hair sticking to her face, tried to wipe away the drying tears.
"Shh...You're safe. I'll protect you." Wonyoung planted a kiss on Yujin's dry lips. The younger girl whispered comforting words into the older's ear, patting her on the back, cradling the older in her arms.
But it made Yujin feel worse. The car crash didn't really affect her that much, she'd had those dreams a couple of times already. She was used to them.
No, it was the fact that she'd dreamed of herself kissing someone other than Wonyoung, touching someone other than the black haired girl she loved so dearly. It made her heart ache. It made her want to cry and bang her head on the wall to knock some sense into herself. She wanted to sob, to hold the black haired girl in her arms, to apologise and kiss her until she could be forgiven.
But Yujin stayed silent.
How could she bear to tell Wonyoung that she had dreamed of someone other than her? How could she have the heart to hurt the younger? She didn't deserve this pure hearted girl, she didn't deserve the love and affection that the younger showered her with.
