the end of the school day came around, slowly but surely. ricky left his last period class and made his way to east high's library to meet up with nini. he enters through the large double doors that revealed the endless amounts of books. ricky spots the short brunette girl scanning through the fiction section. the boy couldn't help but smile at how innocent nini looked.
"what you looking for?" ricky scares nini, causing her to jump slightly at his sudden appearance.
"ricky," nini shrieked. "you have to stop suddenly appearing and scaring me." she glares at the ricky, who is clearly amused. nini dragged ricky to a table on the second floor of the library, which was more of a secluded, quiet space to work at. "people are going to wonder what the heck is going on if they see us together, alone" she adds as she unpacks her belongings.
"are you embarrassed to be seen with me, roberts?" ricky leans back in his chair, folding his arms as if he is refusing to gather his books and start working. nini's mouth gapes open, debating whether she should she should be nice or mean in this situation.
"well, bowen," she starts, still contemplating on what to say. "do you want me to be mean or nice?" she declared, taking the easy route for a reply to him. nini twists her hair around her finger, waiting for his own reply.
"it wouldn't hurt for you to be nice to me for once, right?"
"trick question!" she exclaimed. "i didn't have a nice answer." she grins at him, entertained by his annoyed facials. "okay, let's do some of this assignment so we can leave." nini picks up her pen, wiggling it between her pointer finger and thumb.
"do we have to?" ricky whines like a child, rocking his seat back and forward.
"yes, we do." the girl keeps her head down, reading over her notes that she took down in class. "it's an assignment for a reason." nini shifts her eyes up to ricky, still keeping her head down. "why have you not got your books out?!" she whisper-yells.
"roberts, i don't want to do this." ricky demanded, staring directly into nini's eyes. "i would much rather prefer to be in the comfort of my own home." the boy continued to babble on, while nini on the other hand got a little memorised in the chocolate eyes in front of her. "earth to nini?"
"oh!" she shakes her head rapidly out of her moment of heart eyes, that she would definitely not call heart eyes. "uh... yeah i guess you can home." she diverts her eyes to her picking at her fingernails.
"really?"
"yeah." she shrugs her shoulders softly.
"you're seriously letting me go home after we had planned to have this study session?" ricky says in disbelief, watching the girl who is currently is more of a softer mood than she normally is around him.
"yeah," she whispers. "i'll just stay here and do some more. i don't really feel like going home just yet." nini looks up and gives him a soft smile as an act of reassurance that she wouldn't be mad if he left her alone.
"nini," a bigger smile rises to her face. "i am not going to allow you to do this assignment by yourself." ricky realises that she has a bigger grin on her face than she did a few seconds ago. "why are you smiling like that?"
"you called me nini." she gushed. "that's the first time you have ever called me nini." her eyes crease because of the smile that is plastered across her face.
"oh, shut up." his head falls backwards as he chuckles at her excitement. "look, i am not going to leave you here by yourself to do this work, so i will drop you home." he stands up from his chair, proceeding to push it back in under the table to then lean up against it.
"seriously, bowen," nini starts. "i will just stay here for a bit longer, like i said i would rather be here working than at home at the moment." she places her head in her hands staring up at the boy, who now has his backpack slung over his shoulder.
"well, if you don't want to go to your own house, why don't you come to mine?" ricky puts his words simply, whereas nini on the other hand sits there in shock. her heart dropped to her stomach as the words came rolling off his tongue.
"me? come to your house?"
"well, i mean we seem to be friends now, right?" ricky smirks.
"i wouldn't go as far as friends, bowen." nini brings her sassy side back out, after she thought that she had brought out her soft side for long enough today. ricky's smirk falls. just as he thought that they were getting along well, she just had to be snarky again. "i suppose i can come to your house." her voice raises slightly at the end of her sentence, making it sound like she was asking a question.
