⌲ ❝ the siren's curse ❞
『 tanaka ryuunosuke × shimizu kiyoko 』

『サイレンはかつて人魚でした。あなたはそう信じますか?』

Now, children. I want you to listen to a very peculiar story- one that would've been so magical to hear, it would amuse the entire masses, and it would make people believe in the unbelievable. But it was buried, long ago, just like a rock on the seafloor- never to be seen again.

I'm going to tell you about the story of two creatures - a siren, and a mere human - and the love they had for each other.

It was dated long, long, ago, a little bit after modern technology was discovered but never used often, and news comes in form of rumors passed from one neighbor to another. It was another peaceful day in the Tanaka household- if you call a pair of kids screaming peaceful.

"HEY! NO CHEATING!" A girl, aged 12, yelled at the top of her lungs as she slams her hand onto the board. "I SAW YOU HIDING THAT PIECE ON YOUR BUTT!"

"W-wha-" Her little brother, Ryuunosuke, was surprised as he held his bottom to pull out a drawing of a snake on a paper. "How did you know, nee-san?!"

"He-he-he," The girl, named Saeko, lifted her chin as she grins smugly. "I'm five years older than you, y'know? Of course, I'm smarter than you!"

Ryuunosuke looked at her as if he disagrees wholeheartedly.

"WHY ARE YOU LOOKING AT ME LIKE THAT? WANNA FIGHT?"

Their parents, who were watching them on a sofa nearby, laughed together as they watch them bicker. It was not the right thing to do if you see your children fighting, but the siblings' parents were always light on them. It was probably the reason why they could enjoy things a lot more than normal kids, a pair of lovely cheerful children.

"Aren't you two tired of playing inside the house?" Their father asked as he stood up, heading to the door. "Why don't you try swimming on that beach that they opened recently? Just for a change of pace."

"There's a beach here?"

"Yeah, but it's usually empty since there wasn't a lot here who could actually go to a beach."

"Oooh! I want to go! I want to go!" Ryuunosuke leaped towards the door, but his mother's hand stopped him.

"Help your sister carry the clothes and towel before you run away," She ordered him, which he followed right away with a salute and "aye, aye!". His mother couldn't help but laugh as he caresses his cheeky son's head.

It was a peaceful morning. The sun had risen, but it wasn't as striking as it hides behind a sea of clouds. Aside from a few people biking on the small road, it was a quiet neighborhood filled with old people. As the Tanaka siblings march their way to the sea, the grandmas gave them candies and the grandpas gave them milk to drink. They decided to stop for a while to accompany an old couple who lives near the beach.

"Ryuu-chan, Saeko-chan, where are you going?"

"Beach!"

"The sea! The sea!"

The two had different answers, so the old women chuckled. "Oh, dear."

"Look, granny!" Saeko held Tanaka's shoulders to forcefully turn him around as she zips the backpack he's wearing open. From there, a beautifully studded blonde doll came out. "Daddy got me a pretty doll!"

"Wow, it looks expensive. Are you going to dress her up, Saeko-chan?"

"I'll do that after I marry her!"
