Since the first year of high school.Miya Osamu had been friends with Suna Rintarou since middle school.
Well, maybe friends was a stretch, he wasn't quite sure.
He was quiet, sarcastic, and always distracted by his phone. He looked everyone in the eye like a bored and unamused child. He scowled at those who seemed incompetent. He didn't seem to really care about anything.
And Miya Osamu found that somewhat charming.
In fact—
"... Samu."
He still found it—
"... Samu!"
Endearing.
"'Samu, get yer ass up!"
Osamu was woken up to the unpleasant sight of Miya Atsumu's face.
"Get out of my face, 'Tsumu," Osamu growled. Atsumu jumped at the noise and glared. "Hah?! Wanna fight?!" Atsumu shouted. Osamu sat up.
"I'll beat yer ass and ya know it, dumbass!" Osamu retorted.
They grabbed each other by the shirt and glowered at each other.
"Hey! Stop it, already!" Kosaku sighed.
Osamu was about to reply but he heard a soft snicker.
"Hell are ya laughin' at—" he paused when he spotted Suna behind him.
His phone was held in front of his face vertically and the screen reflected in his eyes. His case was black and there was a thin white stencil of butterfly wings that was peeling off.
For someone who was expressionless, it was strange seeing the minute curve playing on his lips.
"Oi! Snake face!" Atsumu shouted. Suna didn't respond. "Rin!"
Suna glanced up and his eyes narrowed when he spotted the yellow-haired Miya.
"What d'ya want, ya damn highlighter?" Suna snarked.
"Wha'd ya say?!" Atsumu yelled.
"Calm down, Tsumu!" Osamu said harshly. Atsumu flinched at his tone. He maintained his glare but sat back down. He pouted a bit as he stared at the door.
Osamu looked down, feeling bad.
There was a soft ring. Osamu's phone.
Osamu pulled the device from his pocket and glanced at the notification.
Party tonight? Jeez, this kid just got out of suspension.
Osamu shook his head and grinned, quickly typing a reply.
"Hey, y'all wanna go to Sato's party tonight?" Osamu asked, looking up at the other second years.
"Are ya kidding? Kita-San will kill us if he finds out!" Kosaku said.
"Oh, don't be a tight-ass," Osamu teased. "Ya gonna come, 'Tsumu?"
Atsumu opened his mouth and faltered.
"Oh... dunno. I don't think Sato'll wan' me there."
Osamu raised an eyebrow. "What does that mean?"
Atsumu grit his teeth then smiled uncertainly.
"Nothing! I'll go, I'll go," he declared.
Osamu nodded. The bell rang so it was time to head to lunch.
