Osamu took a moment to stare.
He didn't have the chance to thoroughly appreciate Suna's face.
The street-side was fairly quiet and they were tucked in a corner of the cleaned alley. Osamu hated anything being dirty near his shop.
Osamu released his grasp on the Suna and crossed his arms.
"What do ya wanna know?" He didn't miss the way Suna's eyes darted down to his chest before returning to his eyes.
"What happened?"
Osamu clenched his jaw.
"Why did ya—"
"Gimme a minute," he sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose and taking a few deep breaths. He had worked so hard on not getting emotional about the events that took place right before he was arrested. Suna leaned against the wall and watched Osamu carefully while he pulled his thoughts together. "Ya wanna know why I killed those guys?" He finally asked. Suna nodded and gave him a look as if it was obvious. "Okay, um... they had been... abusin' 'Tsu... 'Tsumu for almost ten years. They were the reason—part of the reason he—" Osamu faltered. "Jumped."
"Abused?" Suna repeated. "Why didn't ya report 'em?"
"Because it was—it was complicated. Our situation was complicated."
"Explain, Miya."
"Fuck, Rin, ya want my whole life story?" Osamu snapped.
"I wanna know what was so fuckin' bad about these guys that ya went to prison for ten years, and not even once tried ta contact me, the guy who was yer boyfriend."
Osamu gritted his teeth.
Was.
Right.
It had been twelve years since they last saw each other.
"Fuck." He rubbed his forehead. "If I called the police they woulda split us up because my ma was never around. I couldn't—we couldn' be split up. 'Specially then." Osamu closed his eyes. "I couldn' kill 'em then. 'Tsumu needed me. He never even told me I had to walk in on them rapin'—" Osamu cut himself off. Suna's eyes widened. "Why do ya think I went ta juvie? Fuckin' beat 'em up like a dumbass. Leavin' 'Tsumu alone. Fuck." Osamu sighed. "But that time 'Tsumu—" He closed his eyes. "Atsumu was gone. I had nothin'... there was nothin' holdin' me back."
He expected Suna to say, "What about me"
Instead, he stayed quiet.
"I... I was drunk, and angry, and mourning. I barely remember what I did-"
"Why didn't ya give a statement? About who they were, an' what they did?" Suna made a fair point. And unfortunately, Osamu had an answer ready. An honest one.
"I didn' wanna be in a world without 'Tsumu."
Suna stared.
"Ya planned on... did ya try to-?"
"No... well..." Osamu bit his lip. "listen, I didn't contact ya because I wouldn'... I couldn't look ya in the eye. Not after what I'd done." He lowered his head and rubbed his neck. "Ya didn' deserve... to be with some idiot who was behind bars, Suna. I didn' wanna hold ya back-"
"You were scared," Suna murmured. Osamu stiffened. "You were scared of losin' someone again."
"Fuck. Maybe," Osamu mumbled. "Hell if I know... but ya did a pretty damn good job without me, didn'cha?" He pointed out with a soft smile. Suna huffed and looked away. "Never woulda suspected ya'd go pro," Osamu admitted, "let alone play fer the Olympics." Suna glanced back.
