"What is that?" Maddie asked.
We all looked behind the tree she was pointing at and behind the tree I saw a creature with the body of a man and the body of a horse- a centaur.
"Crap." Kevin said. "We need to get in the castle now!"
"The doors stuck." Noah said, frantically trying to open it.
The centaur sneered at us and began to charge at us.
"Run!" Said Kevin. Before I knew what was happening he grabbed my hand and pulled me along behind him. We all went in different directions.
"Sorry." He said letting go once we were away from the centaur who was chasing after Noah and Tori. "I didn't mean to grab you like that."
Shouldn't we help them? I thought.
"No, it's fine." I said. I watch as Noah and Tori split up and the centaur goes after Tori. "Shouldn't we help?"
"As long as the centaur doesn't catch them, they'll be fine." Kevin said. "We just got to play cat and mouse, keep him busy until he gets tired and gives up."
"Will that work?" I asked.
"Always does." Kevin said.
Just then we hear Maddie shouting. We look over and the centaur has Oliver in his arms.
"Let him go you horse man!" Maddie yelled.
Without having much of a plan, I run out towards them.
"Paige wait!"Kevin said. I feel his hand brush against my arm as he tries to stop me from running head first into danger without a plan.
I ignored him and run up to Maddie. Now what do I do?
Out of the corner of my eye I see a giant tree branch. I pick it up and swing it at the centaurs head.
He sneered and let go of Oliver, his black eyes staring at me. Great. I wasn't thinking, clearly, because I drop the tree branch and start to back up.
What did centaurs even do? Did they eat people? Was I about to be eaten? I close my eyes, bracing myself, ready to be swallowed by this horse-man. To my surprise, it never happened.
I open my eyes and see Kevin on the centaurs back, holding him in a choke hold.
"Get out of here." He said to me and Maddie.
"Guys!" Shouted Max. "I got the door opened!" So he wasn't all that useless after all. "There was a lever here!"
Me and Maddie run into the castle with all the others while Kevin wrestles with the centaur.
"Shouldn't we help?" Maddie asked.
"Nah, Kevin's got this." Noah said. "Watch."
Kevin grabs the tree branch that I dropped and smacked the centaur with it. He dropped the branch and took the opportunity to make a run for the door.
It's only a second before the centuar starts chasing after him.
"Hurry, he's right behind you!" Maddie yelled.
Kevin ran even faster and ran into the castle. We shit the doors just as the centuar was about to bash into us.
"That was close." Noah said.
"Ya think?" Tori said sarcastically.
"I think I like it here." Said Max.
"Did you miss the part where we almost died?" I asked.
"No, that was epic." Max said. "Imagine the stories we're gonna have when we go back! My friends won't believe-..." Max stops uburptly. "Nevermind." He says. "Let's just find your friends and find the Woodland Mansion and get out of here."
