Ben does not remember exactly how he'd gotten here...
Pensively, he sits in his car, carding his fingers through his hair... thinking....
He had parked his car outside the front of Devi's house.
Devi's house, the thought echoes strangely in his head... the wavy feeling in his stomach unsettling, swishing about, making him somewhat nauseous pondering on thoughts... mainly... why had he been here... sitting outside her house... what were he even doing?
It rains and thuds heavy drops of rain outside, streams running down his window as he looks out. He rubs at his face with both hands, frustrated. His trying to understand... what had brought him here? What would he even plan to do?... Remember what she had done, Ben? He questions himself. How she had crushed his heart?... of course he could never forget that, but why couldn't he... stop thinking of her? His heart aches, crushing a little more with each thought of her, confusion searing in his soul...
And he hasn't stop thinking of her... endlessly... he feels helpless... the thoughts hadn't stopped... especially more so since the night of the dance...
It had torn at him, day by day... till the point it had brought him here somehow, pondering in his car... what the hell he could do...
His parents had been on another business trip, and that had not helped either... sitting alone in his room he found himself obsessing over and over of what Eleanor had said.
He had never stopped thinking of her. Ever since the day he and Devi had ended, it had put him in constant pain... as hard as he had tried to move on, and he had tried very hard... but thoughts grew more with what Eleanor had said that day... at the Winter Dance... and now... his heart pounded... and it pounded so differently... it almost seemed inevitable that all his heart wanted to do was draw him here.
"Eleanor isn't right." He mumbles under his breath, reassuring himself. "I won't be bad for Devi." He rolls his key is in his hands, trying to calm his nerves. He takes in a deep breath before shoving his keys into his pocket, then rubbing his hands nervously as he contemplates taking hold of the door handle to open it. That would obviously be the first step. He reminds himself... there is a next step... making it to Devi's front porch safely without the possibility of having to overcome some sort of panic attack. He quietly scoffs at that thought, ironically amused.
But he takes in that one deep breath before he reaches over for the door handle hesitantly and clicks it open. But his legs won't move. They stay there frozen. He grunts in disappointment at how he were struggling to even make it out of his car. Taking in another long deep breath, he manages to bring them to move, shifting each one out of the car, one at a time, until his feet hit the pavement.
His heart thuds terribly in his ear as he takes a quick glance at her door. But he finds his feet moving, and soon enough, his standing outside on her porch... drenching wet. He must have looked like a mess, he thinks bitterly to himself. As he tries to fix his hair, he takes that one step forward toward the door, when it swings wide open suddenly before he could even knock... quick enough to startle him and make him freeze on spot, in sudden shock. A bewildered Devi stands there, gazing at him in awe.
"Ben?!" She whispers, stunned. "What are you doing here?"
He gazes back at her in shock. And he can see how her eyes glint at him with confusion, and an anger that dwell in them. How had she known he were at her door? Had she been watching him from her window? And why was she so unhappy to see him?
The shock made his heart feel as though it were going under... he finds it hard to take a breath let alone answer her question... He hadn't been prepared yet!
