It had been the next class that Ben had built up some courage to pull her over...
His eyes gently flickers over her as he watches her pack her things away into her bag. And Devi had been slow to pack her books away into her bag. As she is about to leave the room Ben quickly catches up to her and tugs on her hand gently, pulling her softly back in, waiting on two other students to leave before he turns his gaze back to her. He softly and slowly closes the door behind them.
Devi, not understanding Ben, lightly cringes at him, confused, reaching over for the door knob once again.
"Are you kidding me, Gross." she groans tired, as she lays a hand on the handle. But Ben quickly places his hand over hers before she is able to turn it. Lifting his eyes from where their hands touch he meets her gaze. Devi's brows wrinkle at him in suprise... it takes her a few seconds to take a step back and then whisks her hand away from under his.
"Ben?"She whispers aloud, wondering her eyes on him curiously. He gazes back at her... eyes filled with words he can't seem to get out...
She becomes impatient, and Ben can tell, watching as she begins to reach for the door again.
"W-wait wait." He says, hoping she'd listen and stop.
Devi turns to him slowly, pretending to look as though she were boredly waiting on him to speak, arms crossed infront of her. He clings to the straps of his bag, as he urgently thinks... because he didn't want her reaching for that door handle again so soon.
"Uh. I have to ask you." Fuck, think faster Ben! His mind yells. "Uhh... mmm." Fuck, and he can see her eyes loosing interest more and more... or worse, he could see her eyes as they begin to change and glare at him.
"Ben. Is this about what we spoke about the other day? I'm sorry. I really really am. But I cant do anything about it now... it's happened... you need to let these things go."
Ben groans.
The pressure is building and, ofcourse there is alot of things he wants to say... alot of things he can't seem to get out out...
But if there is one thing he needs to get out... it is the question that is lingering at the end of his tongue... a question that terrifies him... a question his unsure he'll like the answer too... because if it is not what he wants to hear, it would surely rip his heart apart...
He needs to ask... even if it means she may try to run. Devi has always run from what is difficult... she will always run from having to face pain, hurt... run from what is real... that is one thing Ben knows about Devi... amoung how temperamental she can also be...
He cant hide behind other conversations to get her to look at him... to get her to notice him... he needs to get it out... the question he had been scared to ask...
He squares up his shoulders, preparing himself to be brave... to hope to shield himself with some confidence... even if he felt it were excuriatingly hard...
He swallows down his nerves.
"Listen. I know... I may have done and said somethings..." he stops to brace and poise himself again before he continues. He needs to collect himself... you can do this Ben, he reassures himself.
But his still not sure his ready to ask... his not sure his ready to hear what she may say... if what she says could break him into pieces again... but he knows he has too, before it may become too late if he can't get her to see what he sees between them...
He bites down on his nerves, jaw clenching, pressuring himself that he needs to continue.
"Devi. I... You... you know... how I feel about you... but," his heart races, thumping heavy in his chest. "What I wanted to know... what I wanted to ask..." he sweats, watching as her brows furrow on him deeper, but with curiousity. He has to swallow hard again. Damn it Ben, you can do this - he encourages himself again.
It is hard because she has broken him terribly once before... and his scared she could do it again... just as his hopes had been raised... and this time he fears it would hurt him even more... it would rip him up into trillion of pieces, tear at a wounded heart, tear at a wounded soul... and he is unsure he would be able to ever put those pieces back together again...
His eyes glimmer at her, wondering over her face, hoping for her not to run... hoping for her not to leave him behind...
"I wanted... to know... h-how do you... feel about... me?" he finally gets out, his eyes lowering, and flustering at the thought of what her answer may be.
He feels as his heart thumps inside his chest, the blood rushing to his head, he thinks that maybe Devi could cause him an aneurysm one day.
But waiting is the hardest part... and what's worse is she makes him wait. When he finally looks up, her eyes are not meeting his. Infact, she tries hiding her eyes from him.
And why does she not answer?
Ben wonders whether she can't get her words out... or that maybe she just cant seem to put her words together...
Maybe she just doesn't want hurt him... or let him know how she actually feels... how she actually feels about him...
Then his suprised when she turns round to face him, because she looked angry.
"God, Ben! What do you want from me?" She snaps. "What are you trying to do? Why are you even doing this?! You know that I am with Paxton... right? So maybe..." she says, her voice shaky. "You should leave things as it is."
He looks at her suprised, because, first, he hadn't expected her to snap... second, he hadnt expect her to say as she had.
Nervously, he digs his hands into his pockets still waiting, knowing she seemed to want to say more, even though he wanted to say a few things himself too.
"A-and... why is it only now that you even care? You do these things only when Im with Paxton?...When I am with him! I just don't get you! I just DON'T understand..." she says angrily, teeth gritting on her last sentence.
Ben doesnt skip a beat to answer.
"D-Devi, you think I only care now? Was that the reason I was so tortured after what you did?! Thats what you dont get... I have always cared-" he says, then cutting himself off, watching as she rolls her eyes, hard. Ofcourse, why would she believe him? She only believed what she could see, and he hasnt really shown how he cared for her since she did what she had. Apart for that kiss... that kiss he'd shared with her... at her house... but she still may have thought it were more about him... rather than about her.
He knows she would never believe him... he hadnt only started to care after what Eleanor had said... he has always cared... cared to the point it felt he had been loosing his mind... cared to the point his pain crippled his thoughts...
Nothing she'd ever done had made the love for her less... it had just made him loose hope that she would ever be his... she would never choose him... she could always run to Paxton.
He never believed she could love him as he loved her...
Eleanors words gave him hope...
Eleanors words made his world brighten with hope that one day Devi could be with him again... because he hadnt known her feelings for him were bigger than it had seemed...
And he wasnt going to let her slip through his fingers this time... he needed to win her back...
"Because I do." He says simply. Devi's eyes begin to fill with sorrow, and she turns away.
"Well... things have changed... and I dont think they could ever go back again-" her words softer than a whisper, he barely hears her. But his cheeks flush red with persistence, frustrated, her words burn into his soul... and clouds his mind...
"Paxton was a dick to you," his voice low, and stern. "And Ive said this before, he never deserved you-"
"And how about you, Ben? You deserve me? Have you never been an ass to me before?" She bites back. He feels his heart pound, and the frustration growing.
"Devi. You ran to Paxton. You left me behind. You literally broke me."
She's finding it hard to breath... she didnt want to have to be dragged back into this conversation again... all she had wanted was to avoid this conversation... she feels the panic and she wants to run... but she still stays her ground...
"And what do you want me to do, Ben? Tell me! Do you want me to leave Paxton? Leave him for you?" her eyes firmly watching him... mirroring Ben. But Ben's gaze strengthens to certainty, nothing more than confident...
"Yes." He confesses, sternly.
Devi's eyes wonder over him... She feels pretty much speechless... pretty much froozen...
And all she can think about is how she can't believe him... can't believe his answer. It makes her frustrated... makes her blood boil... but it also makes her feel like she is loosing herself...
It takes her a while for her to snap out of her gaze. She sweeps her eyes away from him.
"Ben, you are out of your mind. How can you expect me to do that?" her voice shaky as she says this. He can feel as her eyes seem to want to burn with tears.
Ben's eyes need to break away, unable to bare the pain in hers. He cards his hands through his hair, holding them there, stressed.
"Unbelievable." He scoffs to himself.
And for the few seconds he looks away, calming himself, gathering up his thoughts, Devi begins to turn toward the door, making his heart race.
Before he does try to stop her with words, they both instantly freeze to the sound of voices and footsteps nearing the door. Devi shoots round to face Ben, eyes wide with horror.
"Oh my God, what if it's Paxton, what if it's Principle Grubs. What if it's Trent and he exaggerates all this to Paxton?" She almost squeals, sniffling away some of her emotions, now being replaced with new ones. Her mind races with thoughts, and her heart stops. And its quite typical of Devi to make bad decisions, so with all the panic, and her mind unable to clearly think fast enough, her first instinct becomes to snatch hold of Ben's hand and drag him toward the class storage room. Ben finds himself being hurtled in, and Devi squishing up beside him, whilst she forces the door closed tightly behind them. But the minute she has done this becomes also the very minute she has regretted it.
Her breathing starts to pick up, and her heart begins to race, feeling somewhat claustrophobic.
A bemused Ben stares at her, confused and stunned... not having expected any of this at all!
"Devi-" he silently begins to question.
"Shhh.' She hisses quickly, keeping her voice quiet. She leans foward, trying to get a glimpse through the narrow opening between the door and its frame. She can not see them, but she can hear their voices.
Ben begins to try to move, irritating Devi, and so she does too. Ben feels as her hand moves, brushing up slowly along his leg, a bit too high for his liking in this type of situation, and so Ben begins to wonder how the hell he'll get himself out of this without Devi threatening to kill him in the process. He flusters.
"Devi, why are we-" he begins then stops when two voices are heard again. The voices sounding very familiar, after hearing them a third time, it is clear they are of Eric and Rosalia. Eric says something and Rosalia giggles wildly. Devi bets the joke wasnt anywhere near remotely funny, she thinks bitterly to herself, all the while just wishing they would both just leave the damn room!
The sound of moving furniture becomes the next thing they hear, and Devi begins to pray to God that it was not what she had been thinking!
"Are they hooking up in there, because I'm prepared to leave right now-" Ben's voice squeaks with awkwardness, nervously adjusting himself alittle, now his shoulder pressed to her front. Devi snaps her gaze to him.
"And risk walking in on them?!" She hisses, appalled. He rolls his eyes hard, leaving them stuck to the top, hoping for this torture to end.
When they hear as Eric and Rosalia begin to chatter on again, as normal, both Devi and Ben breath out a sigh of relief.
"They should go when the bell does." Devi's whisper is soft, and she turns her gaze from the door to peer at Ben.
Ben eyes wonder on her... it's almost as though she had forgotten their last conversation... and she had looked and seemed so much more calm, he couldn't help let his eyes admire her...
Devi catches as his cheeks flush pink, then an embarrassed tone to them, then a smile that tugs to one side.
She starts to realise just how closely squished up they had been, and she becomes self conscious.
Her mind then begins to race, thinking of how she believes she could feel every inch of him against her... even if every inche of them were not infact touching. The heat radiating between their two bodies... she was sure would started getting to their heads... make her feel as though their bodies were melting, melding away together... and just that thought makes her flush pink...
Ben believes his blood is basically simmering... and he feels as a bead of sweat begins to want to roll down his face. And all his mind wants to yell - how the actual fuck was it so hot in here?!
He swallows, trying to find something to distract himself with.
He tries to move again... only make things worse... Her hand brushing his crotch as he moves, and now he were only facing her face to face. Worried and nervous, worried where his hands would touch next, he lifts them above her head, pressing them against the wall.
And shit, this was even closer now... Shit... his mind can not stress how unbelievably awkward this whole situation had been. He gulps, feels a drop of sweat roll down the side of his hair line... and his done-
"Devi, I'm leaving-"
She steps on his foot to stop him, and he almost yelps in pain, feeling the throbbing seconds later.
"Shit! Devi. That hurt." He complains.
"Don't be a baby!" she hisses. "Just dont dare move." She says firmly. But there are cracks to her voice, a clear indication that she had been nervous too.
He furrows his brows at her, confused, questioning. She reads this and answers him.
"If we leave now... they will think we were in here... doing god knows what... and then Paxton will think the same." she explains with a heavy sigh. Did she need to explain that to him, She thinks incredulously.
"Ok." He groans, a little annoyed.
Then his eyes come across the hickey on her neck, and he feels like his heart wants to stop. He can see it clearly, all the details, it practically inches from his face.
"Gift from Paxton?" He scoffs bitterly.
Her eyes wonder over him confused.
"You know... the hickey." He clarifies, clearing his throat softly.
She shrugs her shoulders in response. His lips tighten and he knows she wont answer so he looks away, frustrated.
But with her so close, with the proximity she stands from him, there is no escaping her, with her practically almost pressing up against him, her face inches away... he could basically smell her... her scent like lavender... she smelt so good... so comforting... her scent... intoxicating... seeping in and slowly overtaking him.
How much more of this his unsure he can handle...
He could feel the heat leaching out from her body, their body practially almost curving into each other.
And this is the closest he has been to her in a long while, it makes his heart beat wildly...
It wasnt only his heart he could hear... he could almost hear hers as it drums fast in her body. His eyes begin to trace her neck, lowering to her jaw... he wants to be the one smoothing kisses into her... scatter kisses along her neck... he craves to be the one marking it...
Devi feels his eyes on her. Her chest heaving at the way he looks at her. His neck so close, she watches as his throat bobs as he swallows roughly, making her feel like she could pool right infront of him... melt into complete nothingness... the heat overwelms her, making her feel delirious... it were all too much...
She didn't know how she were even still standing... He seems to always overwelm her with every feeling... and she's barely handling a second longer in here...
He turns his face, his eyes catching hers, eyes gently flicking from her eyes to her lips and back. He aches to kiss her... he arches his neck to get closer... he wants his lips to touch hers... the heat must be going to his head...
He feels as his falling deeper and deeper into her scent, her scent making him delirious, his blood raging to get closer, pumping wildly through his veins. He doesnt know how he drifts closer to her, being drawn in as his eyes lower to her lips. Then as their nose brush, he upturns his eyes to meet hers, wondering what were in them.
"I really want to kiss you, Devi." He murmurs close to her mouth. She lets out a shaky breath, rattling her lungs. She thinks she will loose herself... she thinks she needs to get out of there before she makes the wrong decision... before she won't stop kissing him back... before she can't resist him anymore... once his lips touched hers she was done... she would be forever torn into his trance... before he-
He leans forward and his lips barely touching hers before she throws the door open and stumbles out, startling Eric and Rosalia. Devi's breath heaving as they stare at each other, still trying to gather herself together... to calm herself. Calm her breathing...
"Devi?" Eric questions dumbly, shocked and puzzled. Devi's face red, and she's pretty sure her hair were mattered and tousled with sweat.
"Hi." She breaths. "W-we w-werent doing anything, we werent even close." She sputters out nervously, then allows herself to breath, herself to calm down. "B-Ben and I were just looking for something. You know... for my chem project", she laughs awkwardly, trying again.
Eric's inspecting eyes doesn't help, making her begin to chew on her lips anxiously as she waits on for a reply. Eric peers over her shoulder and around her.
"Did you say Ben?"
She shrugs her shoulders instantly, knowing that that would be his next question. Ben slowly walks out, faint awkward smile, barely meeting his gaze.
"Found the-" he looks down at whatever he had first picked out from the store room. "The litmus paper. For David's... ahhh... chem project.. obviously.. Due tomorrow David?"
"Wait... we have a chem project due tomorrow?!" Eric squeals, looking slightly horrified.
"Y-yes." Ben replies unconvincingly. "I think." He lies, his eyes turn to Devi, who looks like she's about to run. "Right, David?"
He looks on, worried.
Her head spinning... she had never felt more confused... all she could think about was how much she had wanted to kiss him back... she didn't think she could stop if his lips had stayed a second longer...
She dashes out of the room, Eric, Rosalia, and Ben watching after her.
"Devi..." Ben tries but it's too late... his left awkwardly smiling at Eric and Rosalia.----------------------------------------☆☆☆
