✿Chapter 29: Be Very Afraid✿

You knocked on the door of Varian's house. After your parents got their memory back they made the decision that you are able to go out.

Quirin opened the door, "Hello, (Y/N)!" He said, a smile on his face, "Varian is in his room. I will be heading out to do some work." The man passed you.

You smiled at him, "Thanks!" You entered the house, closing the door behind you. Quickly, you walked down the hall, making your way to Varian's room. You opened his door and saw him hunched over his work, dead sleep. You chuckled before stepping over to him, ready to wake him up. Before you could even reach out he jolted awake.

"No! What! Uh..." His eyes were wide as he looked around frantically. He turned to you, looking even more shocked, "When did you- how? How did you get in the house?"

You smiled at him, "Your dad let me in... are you alright? Did you have a bad dream?" You asked, placing a hand softly on his shoulder, "You can talk about it to me." He looked up at you, thinking through it.

"Nah." He shook his head, "I'm fine. It was nothing." He said before getting up. Ruddiger quickly hopped up on his shoulder as Varian walked towards the door, you followed close behind.

The two of you stepped outside, seeing Quirin pass by pushing a wheelbarrow full of apples, "Morning, Son. Morning, (Y/N)." You waved at the man as he walked away.

You heard Ruddiger chatter, "What is it?" You asked, looking over at the raccoon. Ruddiger jumped off of Varian's shoulder and ran towards some spiky red rocks. You and Varian stepped over to them, the boy kneeled down to get a good look.

"Well... this is new." The boy said. You were about to reach out and touch it when Varian grabbed your wrist, "Uh, no. I don't think so, remember what happened the last time you touched one of these rocks?" You sent him a "really?" look. He shrugged before letting go of you. You suddenly noticed the absence of Ruddiger.

You turned to the road and spotted Ruddiger running towards Corona, "Ruddiger?" You called, gaining Varian's attention. The raccoon ignored you and the two of you ran after him, wondering what had gotten into him.

"Ruddiger?!" You and Varian called, wondering where in Corona the little rascal had gone.

The two of you had followed him all the way to the kingdom and somehow he had managed to get away from you, "R-Ruddiger?" Varian called before letting out a groan, "W- Ruddiger, where are you?!"

You both heard some chittering on a nearby rooftop and ran in the direction that it came from.

"Hey! Ruddiger, where you heading!" You said, trying to grab the raccoon's attention. You suddenly noticed the red rocks becoming more common. The two of you rounded a corner spotting Feldspar talking to a woman with a baby.

Varian and you stopped in front of them, "Oh, sorry. Hi." Varian said.

Feldspar gave him a disgusted look, "Don't you have a kingdom to overthrow or something?" Your jaw dropped and you took a step forward, preparing to physically fight Feldspar. Varian, who noticed your anger, held a hand out in front of you, keeping you back.

Varian chuckled awkwardly, "Yeah... Uh, you haven't seen a raccoon around, have you?" He asked, trying to ease the tension.

The woman turned away and her baby started crying. Varian and you shared a look.

"Okay..." You said before grabbing Varian's hand and continuing in the direction that you were going. As you walked away you heard some chittering down a nearby alleyway.
